It shouldn't matter as the DC phases against itself and there shouldn't be notable angle through the single uni to create oscillations.

Just got off the phone with Hardy Spicer in Perth (Bunbury don't have a drive line workshop yet) Aiden was super helpful and almost sounded like a bit of a Landy person! He explained that they could install a HD double cardan to my existing shaft for about $800+/- but talking further he said they had standard size complete shafts on hand (20 odd) for $500, these are fully greaseable. I will be heading to the big smoke in a week or so and will take the busted shaft along and see what options I have.
Currently I am thinking just a std replacement will do nicely as my D2a is basically stock, automatic and I don't do hard core four wheeling, plus it wouldn't be a 6 week wait. I don't really hear of people actually snapping the front shaft, more the joints failing due to lack of grease.

    cheers

    Agree, hence the question

Redd, the standard shaft ( if assembled correctly ) will be totally fine for your application.
I'll probably have a spare cardan sleeve around here somewhere if I look hard enough if you have no joy in Perth, as I rebuild my own

The U/J's will only fail prematurely if the car has been lifted above 2" due to the needle rollers running too hot on the highway, overheating and dissipating the grease, as well as old age on non greaseable units .

The standard shafts can break when giving the berries in on/off Traction situations.

3178785[/URL]]You've got a beast with all of the big turbo crazy engine power upgrades and big tyres and lift don't you!

The TW and small Glynn Lewis are both 1310, the baby TW also, you can get them in whatever size you want and they're tubed to suit. I chatted to Tom about 15 years ago re 1350's for the D2, he can do them but he said if there are any problems such as vibrations etc the additional weight will magnify them.

The big 2020 shaft from Glynn Lewis is like a Big Cap 1310 with caps from a 1350 increasing the size from 27mm to 30.2mm. The 1350 increases the uni size also from 81.8mm to 92mm. The 2020 should be a good shaft, I'd expect similar to the 1330 but more compact. If you break the Glynn Lewis 2020 too then your next step up is the 1350.

In terms of torque capacity in lb/ft (yanks)
    1310 1600lb/ft
    2020 1716ft/lb
    1330 1850ft/lb
    1350 2200ft/lb

I'm not sure if the Glynn Lewis ones bolt straight on, but I suspect the TW 1350's will need an adaptor which look like this.

Yeah I do 35psi of boost and 550nm at the motor on 35s haha GL handle it fine

British UTAH front double carbon drive shaft

Back when looking at the replacement for the front shaft, was put onto this company as an alternative to the the Tom Woods which has seemingly a great reputation in about 90% swear by them, but, 10% at them. It is a company called British Parts of Utah and one of the aspects that the peeps commended most highly was the balancing done in house and

The company three years ago at least was great to deal with and the price was more than competitive against all competition. Was a nice piece of kit!

Discovery's drive shaft failure is quite common due to its design. British Parts of Utah offers reinforced/redesigned drive shaft for its longevity.
    1. Greasable U Joints: Front driveshaft is located under the HOT catalytic converter which can accelerate the lubrication failure. Our driveshaft is now greasable (factory unit or any aftermarket shaft is not greasable), so it lasts longer with little maintenance.
    2. Heavy Duty Construction: Double Cardan U joint is OVERSIZE in order to cope with high torque and load.

That's comparable to the TW and Glynn Lewis 1310 shaft. It'll be a good shaft for most people.

Considering the above snippet, perhaps HTB grease would be of benefit.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

    RRT,

I did find their listing on Ebay (I tend to see what's listed and then usually go to the company direct as can work out slightly cheaper) definitely looks the goods and significantly cheaper (including shipping) than the TW equivalent.

    cheers
