Haven't got any out yet mate...want to get hardest out first! Cheers
Unlikely to have wrecked the gasket - the studs are designed to go on standard stuff even if they have reduced the torque last year.
Have you been a norty boy and used a 12 point 16mm socket rather than the proper 6 sided socket that should be used on high torque stuff
If so that might explain why the nut has stripped.

No 6 point...but 16mm...should have used 5/8th as it US...Cheers
I keep a 5/8" 6 point impact type deep socket for all my RV8 head loosening and tightening. 12 point sockets won't do the job reliably.
I didn't have a 12 point socket in my toolbox until a couple of days ago when I needed a 12mm for the exhaust bolts and a little one for the rocker cover bolts...of course even after using penetrating spray I sheared off one of the exhaust bolts...bugger.

About 20k...so it shouldn't have broken. Cheers
OK so other head didn't have studs but stretch bolts. So with studs is it easy enough to place the head on the studs despite the firewall and the 2 outlet pipe stubs from the heater matrix? The studs and dowels should locate the gasket nicely. Cheers
Never. The holes in the head don't have enough clearance to do that. The dowels in the block should be entirely adequate to hold the head gasket while you place the head into position. Once it's there, hand tighten a couple of the long studs to stop the head sliding off the dowels.
