Yes we have RACWA gold and we are investigating getting towed out of here atm, I know a Nanocom won't fix our current problem it could only possibly tell us what our problem is. We were looking to buy a Nanocom and picking it up further along the trip at maybe the Darwin PO to allow time for postage as this situation has proved without it diagnosis of faults is a nightmare and you can't rely on mechanics scan tools to read Disco's.
wow just when i think i know of a dodgy ass mechanic i here of anther one
have you tried selecting d on the gear on the xyz switch then trying a drive?
least i know if i break down in hellscreek just keep pushing because no use trying to fix anything their![]()
What a saga! How did he do that and not see? Did he fit the trans with a front end loader or something?
Are you mobile yet? I repeat my offer to lend you my Nanocom. Not ideal, I know, but I'm not using it. Couldn't post it before Monday, but if it helps... You pay postage, and I DO want it back.... I'd sell it to you, but it has more codes on it than you need, and they all cost.

Nanocom, D2 TD5 only.
Well it just exposes his lack of competence which unfortunately is the norm here, we just got a very good deal on getting towed out of Hell's crack to Kunnunarra the truckie warned me off of the other mechanic as well. So we found a mechanic in Kunnunurra who has Land Rover experience and is looking at the disco when we get there. Thanks for the offer but by the time it would reach us (on the 3 legged camel and blind jockey AKA Aust post) he will most probbably have it sorted anyway we wiii buy one and have it shipped to Darwin. It just makes sense to do so as we carry on with the trip as this has shown us how limiting it is not having a scan tool with it's capabilitys to aid in breakdown's.
Shifter has now been repaired by me and is working ok, mate if you or anybody you know are ever up here say a prayer as you enter and leave Hells Crack or take the Gibb river road or Tanami arround this place it is cursed! We are the third vehicle in a week that I know of that's been towed out of here with either dodgy work that can't be fixed or they hear about the mechanics and just leave. One guy just shelled out $10k after NRMA road side assist + 2 bus and 4 air fares to have his rig towed and them fly back home to NSW and he had an 80 series Landcruiser with a faulty injector pump!
That's great news (that you have escaped and it's working).
To be honest, when I got a TD5 after so many 200 and 300TDi engines I viewed the Nanocom as a really expensive, but vital, spanner. It's not a nice to have, it's an essential. As you found out it might make the difference between a straight forward diagnose and repair and some mechanic butchering stuff because of no better idea.
In theory it should be possible to get the diagnostic codes out of the auto ecu (you can get some out of the engine ecu already) with a standard OBD, I just never got around to trying it - Offtrack published some stuff about doing the 'password' response in case it tries the authentication thing.
Hope the rest of the trip goes better!
I only ment the shifter was now fixed the tranny fault is still there but we will escape be it on the back of a truck tomorrow morning at least we will not see another day in this place! It's like a spider web once you are trapped you are stuck while they suck your walet and bank account dry!
I have been following this and other threads as you know. Good to hear you are moving forward and Kunnunarra is a much better place, more to do and see. The caravan park next to the mini Bungle Bungles is nice and a short walk out the back to explore them. Good luck.
