The truck slowed down to 80km from 100 on moderate hill slowly. The pipe coming off the top of radiator leaked on my second check. I tightened the screws should be ok now. It might be blocked hoses?

It really sounds to me like a loss of boost. But there are many possible reasons for that, and, of course, I could be wrong.

You out there, Muppet, beeutey, sierrafery, anyone?

Nrma guy reckons it's the turbo charger. The piece in it is a bit loose sideways and up and down. Looks like I'll need a new one. Hopefully I'll be back on my way home soon. What a day!

    Good opportunity for an upgrade

As john said pull your intercooler hoses off and check for delaminating on the inside .

A little movement of the turbo impeller is ok

Its either turbo or the hose. I dont have any spares with me so I'm getting towed back home. Thanks for assistance guys. Much appreciated. This is a good lesson to think about spares for future as a td5 owner. 😅

Does not sound like your turbo to me as if a turbo goes and blows smoke like you say you could have a run away engine .
Guessing a intercooler hose which will loose power and blow smoke under load .
If your boost modulator has gone it will be gutless but should really not blow smoke .

Nrma guy is probably right , simple check for turbo , if the smoke smells oily then yep , turbo, order the upgrade one as mentioned as well as the genuine washers and oil drain gasket as the ones that come with the upgrade are crap .

Just a reminder. Do NOT rely on the temp gauge. It is hopeless.

+1 from me, and I reckon a couple of hundred other's will add their +'s to that advice too.

If you still can(get to the car and do stuff to it), to be sure to be sure, find as many of the loom connectors from Injector loom plug to ECU to wherever that goes into as well .. basically give as many electrical plugs a spray with WD, contact cleaner .. whatever .. just in case.
Other than a few minutes, it'll cost 'ya $0.
Brother and I chased up incorrect avenues searching for why his TD5 lost power suddenly, then altogether, then ran fine a moment later, then total loss of power .. etc. much grey-ish smoke when it ran crap.
After a few $tho(fuel pump, FPR, MAF .. etc) turns out to be the injector loom plug coming out of the front of the head.

Speaking of which, as I've read, many have similar issues with failed/failing fuel pumps with similar symptoms too.

Is it fair to assume you don't have a nanocom?
    Arthur.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!
