On heating the opposite happens, they slide the other way, at the Evap they let liquid through, no expansion, at condenser, slide and become the system expansion device.

They have strainers in them that clog up, often we pull the strainers out and they still clog up.
Even with a large Bi flow liquid line drier, they still seem to clog up, with Carbon looking stuff, and sometimes metal pieces.
Thanks very much, Paul. I found the following that shows a drawing of one. I just could not understand what they were trying to achieve until you mentioned reverse cycle systems.

Bryant? Now there is a name so easily forgotten.

    Exactly the same thing happened.
And the blokes who turned the water off didn't advise anyone and claimed that they didn't turn it off.
    Really?

And they were the only ones signed into the contractors log prior to us getting the call.

You know what I say about Plumbers & ****ing things up? I guess we need them though for when the Bog backs up, they are the only ones that have elbow length PVC gloves.

Re Accurators. Just recalled a job I went to at Willunga Hill years ago. I suppose it is/was 50-100km from base.

The client had been complaining to Carrier for 12 months about bloody awful performance on H & C.
Two 2.5hp units on the tiled roof, common Indoor coil. (Never had seen that setup before with Carrier gear)

Long story short, some clown(s) had fitted the wrong size Accurators to both indoors & outdoors. Worked like a bomb after fitting the correct ones. I used to keep a plastic bag of the things in the van in assorted orifice sizes, 'cos you never knew what you would find once onsite.

Worked beautifully after changes. Bloke thought my **** didn't stink & he got on the phone to CAC & blasted the **** out of them while I was there. (I thought I knew some swear words but he taught me some) Odd thing about it was the Service Call actually came from CAC Service Dept. & their excuse was they didn't have anyone available to attend. He became my newest best friend.

I was told later after a bit of a boozy get together with the CAC Service Supervisor Ian, that they were at a loss to know why the problem existed so just give it to good old Mr. bee. (Maybe he can make an idiot of himself?)

All the sizing data was on printed sheets with the units but typically no-one gave a **** or could be bothered looking that far into the systems, or getting into the roof space but I bet they enjoyed a nice day out at the beach.

    Ah Happy Days.

Drink quickly so the beer doesn't have time to freeze.
