Ah well, I won't have to worry about it for much longer

    They did,oil around $100 at the most,caps,off ebay,element 14 or Equity Engineering,probably $10 to $15.

Actrol have gone silly since Reece took them over. Why wouldn't they, being run by plumbers.

    Quote yesterday for a 10KW freezer unit,they were $16K,6 week wait,Heatcraft $11K,in stock.

Although the Actrol unit is better quality,Bitzer compressor, etc.

I bought the last cap off E-bay and it died within 2 years. The original lasted 12, so I got a "bit burned". $63 for a cap was a bit of a **** take though. Still, when you "need it now" you pay the tax.

I don't know why I went to Actrol to be honest. I usually go to Airefrig. Lesson learned.

I assume it was a paper Capac? Before I retired in 2000 I made sure I had some Oil Filled Caps handy for comps & fans I know, I know don't say it. But by 'eck they last a lot longer than that other lightweight crap.

33 years ago I replaced a 35 mfd Start/Run on my air cond, still running today because they run cooler. Now, having said that Murphy's Law will come into effect.

Yeah, it was paper. This condenser sees a lot of sun and the cap sits just under the lid, so it was never going to last as long as the original.
This is a name brand cap, so hopefully it'll last a bit longer (especially for >$60!).

Around 30yrs ago,we changed a few caps a year, today we are often changing a few a week,no matter what the brand.
The best ones we find today are the genuine Kirby metal shelled one's,but ATM they are getting hard to get, particularly the popular sizes.More expensive but well worth the extra coin.

Evaporator coils are the same,30yrs ago we could usually fix the leaks, and maybe replaced a handfull a year.
Today we change more than one a week.
We have actually replaced two cabinet and one cold room evap so far this week, and another approved late this arvo to be done Friday.
Most of them are less than 8 yrs old, many around 5 yrs old.
Just cheap crap paper thin copper.

Call out last week, old Bradway Temperzone unit, faulty Run Cap for the compressor probably caused the issue.

It is the burnt ball looking thing above the compressor.

The site emptied 3 fire extinguishers on to it.
