Interesting odd, old or unusual tools, accessories or tricks

There must be a lot of stuff out there that fits the title feel free to post piccies or descriptions etc for us all to share!

So I am headed to a clearing sale today in between work and am hoping to pick this up.

It is a lister motor with a generator fitted to work as a battery charger! I had never seen one before like this.

so I went looking for MANNAN BROS and found this..
08 Oct 1937 - MOTOR MEHANICS' INSTITUTE. FIRST LECTURE 11th OC...

..<<snip>>The lecturer will be Mr. A. T. Kneese, B.E., F.S.A.S.M., A.M.I.E., Aust, of Mannan Bros. Ltd., and his subject will be Batteries, their history, construction, development, faults and maintenance. Mr. Kneese has had a long and extensive experience in this subject. After taking his degree at the Adel ide University, which included a year's practical experiencee in the Tramways Trust converter stations, he was making storage batteries for a time, and later went to U.S.A. and Canada to study the electric vehicle indutry and storage battery plants. A film may be included in the lecture and at its conclusion there will be a general discussion. ? The committee of the Institute has decided to open the first lecture to( the whole of the motor trade, in order to indicate the lines on which the lectures will proceed. Technical Hint: ? Loose Terminals ? it is a good plan, ae a measure of precaution, occasionally to examine and test the many electrical termin als on a car to make sure that they are keeping tight. This may be done every 3 or 6 months, and especially 3 months or so after a new car has been brought into use. Vibration will sometimes cause one or more to loosen and set up resistance to the passage of the current, as well as permitting the atmosphere to cause corrosion of the parts that should make good electrical contact.
    <<snip>>

Seems they were likely well qualified to build a battery charging unit!

Looking under HANNON BROS I found this ad..

    http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/93946884? searchTerm="hannan bros"+"villiers"+"generator"&searchLimits=

    in Chronicle (Adelaide, SA : 1895 - 1954)(issue Thursday 11 February 1954 page 45 advertising)

I reckon thats likely it (cant see ad on my phone)

Maybe this could be sort of considered a tricks, tools and accessories thread for the Landys from series to the "later stuff"?

    Post away folks!

I use to think along the same lines but not any more.

    MoveLater

So I serviced the motor and found the major problem was that it still had the original spark plug that was actually coming apart!! New oil, fuel line, exhaust welded back together and a mechanical clean (outside is still dirty!) and the motor hums

Now my problem is with the genny!! How do I wire that to what?
I will attach some photos. Any help appreciated!

I know it needs a fanbelt..

What Im after is someone explaining to me what goes where and what does what here.

feel free to explain the mystery of sparkage to me... it mystifys me Im afraid...

I believe the small black box wires onto the smaller post on the back of the genny (these are 56 gennys, so neg earth I assume)?

I am hoping for this to be operational and Ill use it on my landys and my 64 massey ferguson tractor (which I found out is a 765 NOT a 65 ???)

sorry the photos are sideways they're correctly oriented on the 'bucket'
