So sad and these idiots and their parents need to be taken to task.
    Really feel for the family.
Not to upset people but pedestrians also need to take more notice as it appears there were no zig zag zebra lines, which means the pedestrians dont automatically have right of way. See it so often here pedestrians think they have right of way and walk out in front of cars when they dont. There needs to be an education program about when pedestrians have right away and when they dont. I have personally nearly hit a couple not looking at all and sat back on hundreds of occassions when you could see they wernt going to look or give way.

Craig, here in Vic (where the incident occurred), this was a pedestrian crossing. On a pedestrian crossing, pedestrians have right of way.
It is also illegal to pass vehicles stopped at pedestrian crossings.
    81
Giving way at a pedestrian crossing
    (1) A driver approaching a pedestrian crossing must drive at a
speed at which the driver can, if necessary, stop safely
    before the crossing.

    Offence provision.
Note Pedestrian crossing is defined in subrule (3).
    (2) A driver must give way to any pedestrian on a pedestrian
    crossing.

    Offence provision.
Note For this rule, give way means the driver must slow down and, if
necessary, stop to avoid a collision ? see the definition in the
    dictionary.
    (3) A pedestrian crossing is an area of a road:
    (a) at a place with white stripes on the road surface that:
    (i) run lengthwise along the road; and
(ii) are of approximately the same length; and
(iii) are approximately parallel to each other; and
(iv) are in a row that extends completely, or partly,
    across the road; and
    (b) with or without either or both of the following:
    (i)
    a pedestrian crossing sign;
    (ii)
    alternating flashing twin yellow lights.
Note 1 Twin yellow lights is defined in the dictionary.
Note 2 Rule 322 (3) and (4) deal with the meaning of a traffic sign at a
    place.
    Pedestrian crossing sign
    Examples
    Example 1
Giving way to a pedestrian on
    a pedestrian crossing
    Example 2
Giving way to a pedestrian on a
pedestrian crossing at a slip lane
In each of these examples, the driver must give way to the pedestrian on
    the crossing.
    82
    Giving way Part 7
Crossings and shared zones Division 5
Overtaking or passing a vehicle at a children's
    crossing or pedestrian crossing
A driver approaching a children's crossing, or pedestrian
crossing, must not overtake or pass a vehicle that is
travelling in the same direction as the driver and is stopping,
or has stopped, to give way to a pedestrian at the crossing.

    Offence provision.
Note Children's crossing is defined in rule 80, overtake is defined in
the dictionary, and pedestrian crossing is defined in rule 81.
    Example
Driver not passing a vehicle that has stopped to give way to a
    pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing
In the example, vehicle A has stopped to give way to a pedestrian on the
crossing. Vehicle B must not overtake or pass vehicle A.
    83
Giving way to pedestrians in a shared zone
A driver driving in a shared zone must give way to any
    pedestrian in the zone.
    Offence provision.
Note 1 Shared zone is defined in rule 24.
Note 2 For this rule, give way means the driver must slow down and, if
necessary, stop to avoid a collision ? see the definition in the
    dictionary.
Of course, the teenagers were too young to have licences. Should they be expected to know the road rules?
    I think so.
The truth is a family has been destroyed and these young lads are sure to get little more than a slap on the hand. They should not have been in the road on those bikes.

My father was killed by a speeding hoon taxi driver who was on the wrong side of the road, on a crossroad blind spot. Nothing my old man could have done by looking around him could have prevented his death.

A lot of pedestrians need to get a life and stop walking around with the mobiles phones in their face, reading and texting whilst walking across crossings and lights and in front of cars moving in car parks.
But because they are brain dead they know no better.

I wonder who the family of the deceased lady are going to sue for compensation?
It won't be T.A.C as the hoons were riding an unregistered vehicle.
The Hoons being up to 17yrs old probably haven't any money.
    Do they go the parents?
I reckon its going to be on going sad times .

    Thumbs down Pathetic Weak Parents

Kids don't bring themselves up, the blame lays squarley with the parents for not being parents. They both should be kicked in the arse and held accountable parents and kids. Parents should have to do community service and a course in being parents.

These Kids are old enough to know better, should do weekend jail detention at a minimum and crush there bloody bikes while they are watching.

In fact anybody caught anywhere riding illegal on motor cycles anytime, crush any of there bikes while they are watching.

You would only have to do a few and the word would get out.

In fact, kids on pushbikes and skate boards with no helmets or on footpaths, police should instantly confiscate them. Their parents should have to collect them form the Police station. If not collected in 28 days give them to the needy or bloody crush them too.

I am a teacher and see incompetent parents every day.
(Cant you tell first day of holidays and some steam ti burn off )
    My rant over
    Cheers
