So far 18 students have signed up for the course.
In the past those students would have gone to TAFE, but now schools are having to do it.
Incidentally in the past several students have gained apprenticeships after doing work experience with vehicle and motorcycle dealers, so it can be done, but schools are having to pick up the ball dropped by the federal government.
And don't get me started on Gonski ... that would be political.

Disco, I don't agree with many of your views, but that's ok, because I believe, from your posts, that you are a very genuine person,........and , why should we agree?....simply,...we don't have to, ..as long as we can have a good discussion.
For example, there are some on this forum, who are absolutely TOTALLY agro against the" USA" they know who they are, but they ain't game to come out & say it.....I am going to call them out, every time I detect it. I'm OLD, so I can say, if it weren't for the hundreds of thousans of USA boys that died defending this part of the world in WW11, I wouldn't be talking to you now.
Me?....I am what I am, I will come out & say what I think,....as you do,....and I rspect you for that,'...and your good grace in your posts...even if we are poles apart.
    May the discussion continue, Pickles

Except of course spend money where necessary to fix so many things which should be fixed.
But lets build a new embassy somewhere for a few hundred million and all will be rosy...
Oh dear, I've gone all political......
    AlanH.
That's not political. That's cynical but in the best possible way.
    Cheers, Billy.

    Thanks for your kind words.
As you say, we should be able to have an open and frank discussion, consider each others' views against our own experiences and make up our own minds - that's true freedom.
What I don't agree with is when just say the other person disagrees so they're an idiot and should be silenced. That's not freedom - that's repression and leads to dictatorship.
As for the USA, I'm not against the USA and I have several American friends, but I think there is a dark side to the USA's role as a world superpower. I think the USA was improving its behaviour under Obama, but is more likely to act badly under Trump. Anyway that's a hijack and belongs in another thread.
    Merry Christmas everyone.

People are quick to come out with negative thoughts, but not one of you has put forward a solution.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

    Some ideas ;
Eliminate compulsory and unpaid overtime and replace with part timers ?
Replace permanent casuals with either full time or contract positions ?

Maybe too simple but in my mind if you feel somewhat financially secure you might be prepared to invest in your future , rather than living for the day.

Oh I wish, unfortunately it takes 12 hours to do my day's work, so I have no choice.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

I wish too but we're too far gone to ever achieve the elimination of 12 Hr shifts.
Our business has been engaged in a savage price war race to the bottom. It will now take years to claw our way back.
    Cheers, Billy.

I am curious as to how stopping 12 hr days will fix things.

Until we as a country start supporting local business and stop looking for the cheapest regardless of how well or not it's made , all you will do is force the cost of local goods up even more.

I'm happy to be proven wrong but my simple brain tells me that business won't put on more people , they will shrink to a smaller more niece market where they can compete.

    Just my view .

    Cheers Ean
