You have no idea just how aghast I was, Justin. She is only 32, and has seen nothing. Now, she has seen far more than she needs to.

Thats a very sad story all round John and I hope your daughter over time gets to erase it from her memory. She will need lots of support and hopefully she is getting it from both professionals and family. I am sure your support will go along way in the helping and healing process for both horrible events she has been thru this year.

I feel for the family of the poor person who hung himself as well as they would be grieving and have plenty of questions without answers. There are no winners out of this sad state of affairs.

My brother in law found his son hanging in thier yard, was still alive and he tried to hold him up for as long as he could , arms full stretch above his head for over an hour , but in the end when help ( as in my sister returning home ) arrived and the ambo's were called it was too late. That experience tore them apart and they refused to seek help and end result was not only the death of their son, also the death of their marriage. Not sure if seeking help would have saved the marriage but it certainly would have been a better option than none.

    Cheers Ean

Today I got a call from my step son ( OK, the people I speak of are my step kids, but I don't want to keep typing that in ), telling me to check in on my . daughter, as something bad had happened. He was in the city ( Melb ), her guy was 2 hours away, and where was I? As it happened I was 10 minutes away........

Turns out she was talking on the phone, and was looking out her window, and saw her neighbour hanging in a tree. I mean, hanging, by the neck. I have seen some terrible things, but I think this tops all of them, in the sense of WTF??? And she is only 32, and lost her real dad 5 years ago, and her VERY real mum this year.

On 000, talking to Ambos and Pol, they tell her to just "cut him down", as she was unable to "catch" him. . Makes sense to me, but not to her... Not then. But she did... The sound he made when he hit the ground is where nightmares come from.

I have been involved in a few "first on scene, first reporter" scenarios, but I really hoped that would end when I did. Not so. Now it's Jemima's turn.

I am not liking 2018 much.
Been there . Palm avenue Shorncliffe, woman screaming out the front of a house, while I was delivering mail, in my time as a postman. Goes inside, young man hanging. I lift him up, she takes the rope off, I drop him on his head. BANG! After 15 minutes of CPR, Policeman comes in, says two words - he's gone. I knew from the start, but you have to try. In my time in the Navy, I had dealt with bodies from time to time, but this was personal. For some reason, when I got back to the office, I burst into tears. Tell your daughter not to take it personally. She did what had to be done.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

I've been there, Chris. In fact I was there for your great night last year, when Sandy showed us that girls are as silly as boys. But local info is important, as you should know.
