Put the hose on him. Firm jet but not hard. Avoid light spray as it may encourage a bath if it’s warm weather. He’ll be just as grumpy but should get the message.
They are smart and can be vindictive. Not unlike a 3 yr old child.
We seem to have been invaded by a small flock of cockatoos, some one in the area must be feeding them which is against council regulations due to property damage caused.
we now have one particular cocky that peers through our kitchen window begging for food, he taps on the glass, when we shoo it off he gets agro and the other day attacked a tree and ripped branches off. Now our kitchen window is being beaked and large chunks have been ripped off the timber frame. Apart from a shotgun gun how do you deter these critters.
He wont scare off when we approach the window but holding our cat up makes him nick off with rage.

Super soaker with some lemon juice in the water was recommended to me and I used to use until the super soaker broke
We have a large wooden deck and feed the King parrots so the Cockies are always around to try and get their cut.
We tend to throw small branches from tree drop at them which tends to give them the message, but we cannot control them when we are away. Found my luckily hardwood table with beak marks around a seam where a sunflower seed was lodged.
I reckon one of those kid's guns so popular now with the plastic bullets would give them the message.

I am ambivalent towards them, as they are so cute . I was standing on the deck one day and one came down and landed right next to me, then proceeded to look under my hand for seed, then swapped to the other side and repeated all the while with his comb up and so confident..
Lady across the road was feeding them a few years back but se had to stop because they started eating one of the other the people next door's wooden railings on there Queenslander.
Last year she planted a passionfruit vine ,she covered the vine with mosquito net once it started to get fruit. She came out one morning to find about 50 cockatoo's had destroyed the net & were eating all the fruit. There dog just sat & watched.
She has now planted a grape vine will be interesting when it gets fruit.![]()
I have two grape vines. I found that if I expected to get any fruit I had to net them before the berries ripened otherwise birds of all kinds had a feast. Crows were the worst.
I love cockatoos. they are entertainers. Smart as whips and so dexterous. What they can do with those big cruel looking beaks and lumpy tongues is amazing. Throw them some green peas in pods and watch them shell the peas then skin individual peas using beak and tongue. Stand on one leg and use the other to hold a cob of corn (Yes, my corn stolen from my garden)whilst using the beak to remove individual kernels from the cob.
