I hadn't heard the theory that masks were bad as you were likely to get pneumonia before. I guess all of our healthcare workers will all be sick with pneumonia soon but since they have been wearing masks for 2 years now perhaps they have become immune.

Surely that was for you both to decide? Better to safe guard yourself than not?

A theory going around the UK is that OMICRON can be re-arranged to spell NO CRIMBO which means no Xmas in slang, and if you are wondering where they got the "B" from it is by using it's full name Omicron (B.1.1.529)!!!!!

The mask person was sort of right. When masks were first made recommended a doctor friend pointed out that there was more to it than just wearing the mask. Had to consider how put it on and took it off. Then how long you wore it and how it was disposed of. Not all masks are the same quality and have differing levels of particle trapping capabilities. No doubt this was from a clinical point of view where training is required for use of PPE

Those who wore bandanna type cloth masks were wasting everyone’s time as the gaps in the cloth were so large it was like trying to stop basket balls with scaffolding on a building site

All that said he did agree they had 2 benefits they would stop some transfer and the more crowded the better and the psychological benefit as it was something tangible people could do to protect themselves from an unknown danger

No doubt your leaflet person has picked up on this and adopted selected parts to come up with own theory

Its interesting that where I voluntered in northern africa with the early version of MSF in the late 1980s there were surgeons who did long operations for 4 to 5 hours never got pneumonia and or similar infections and more significant didnt get TB which was extremely prevalent there and is extremly infectious with a R value of 14. Love to see evidence of how sick surgeons get in Australia, using that logic the health system would be in a permanent state of collapse... the temperatures there were 45 degrees Celcius and sometimes humidity of over 90% but they kept them on because we were seeing daily evidence of the fatal effects of not protecting themselves from such diseases..

While not a world wide conspiracy theory, I am beginning to have my doubts about one of the take-away vendors near one of my sites, as they never seem to have old or discounted stock, whereas a multi national type coffee shop nearby often does. I just can't believe a little local coffee shop is so much better at ordering, controlling stock, forecasting customer numbers, etc than a big chain and suspect "use by date" sticker tampering!

I'm a small business doing various things and I can tell you quite honestly that I have a full handle of everything I have on hand to do stuff, even where it is etc, blah, blah.

The big chains throw stuff out (fresh foodstuffs especially) in obscene amounts because of the systems they use.

Not that long ago Australia (well 50 years ago) Oz had a manufacturing industry and my uncle used to buy the buckets of mixed bolts and nuts that fell on the floor of the IH production line and weren't picked up and used because the bean counters had deemed it was costing the company money if they did this. (uncle made a small fortune out of this)

A small business would pick the bolts and nuts up and use them and remain profitable because they are not paying obscene amounts for the bean counters.

They also don't have to pay for market research because they know their market........ accurately, often on a first name basis or just a good old nod of the head and a smile.

The people who ran 'The Twins' in Lygon St would have made soooo much money it's no wonder they retired. Tragedy for souvlaki and coffee lovers.

The point is 'hands on' knows it inside out.

I'll bet you also think that plastic moulders in Oz can't compete with China.

Not really hands on at this place as a lot of casual staff, with a high staff turnover rate, even the managers, I doubt the owner works in the business.

When it comes to the food business I am not exactly un-initiated in the dark arts (put a stale bread roll in the microwave for a few seconds, and it comes out as if it has been freshly baked, but you can only do that once as it goes hard as a rock after that) as a few of my family worked as restaurant managers, catering equip. suppliers, hotel managers, come to think of it I am sort of the black sheep of the family not having done so. You're right a lot of money can be made in food, drink, accommodation, etc. we knew a gent that started out as a butcher, ended up a multi-millionaire owning about 5 hotels, drove a Rolls Royce and would pay about $200 a week for a undercover parking bay at an exclusive shopping mall so that he could visit one of his restaurants one or twice a week and not park in the sun.

On the subject of China, that's where you are wrong, I believe the only way to compete with China is with machines, ever since seeing a show about a guy in America that made wire baskets, shelves, etc. When asked how he competed with China he just pointed at one of his machines and said something like "That machine does the jobs of thirty Chinese."

With respect, first para you're missing the point. Small operators who know what they're doing will never have to cheat with out of date coffee, etc.

I see workers at the local W........... going through the shelves daily loading big trolleys with sorts of everything that is out of date, presumably headed for landfill.

Second para, I have another mate who was one of the biggest plastic moulders in Oz whose company used exactly the same machines as used in China and the same input materials.

Which country was cheaper in volume on an item depended on the exchange rate with the US dollar, simple as that.

Have never understood what a Supermod is. Theremust be more to it than a Name. Do Moderators also need supervising ? Doubt it, as Admin would serve that function.

Do they fly with a large S on their chest leaping from tall Buildings & travel faster than a speeding train or a Bullet? Do they undress in Phone boxes? (A bit odd that one). This is the only forum I have used that appears to have them.

What is their purpose as the name implies. Replies in a sugarbag svp.
Good luck with that. I've asked a similar, never got a response I understood.

I believe that my statement that "everyone is worthwhile" covers this.
