Today we are going to remove F for Freddy's fuselage to replace one of the landing Light bulbs to get at those Rover designed headlamps. I have the manual here, so Charlie, start your lads & remove the tail fin & work your way forward to the wings. Terry's lads can get a good look at the 4 engines then. Spennie's team will take over from there to remove the undercarriage while Bruce checks all the Bulbs including both Navs & Beacons, after all, we don't want to do this again next week do we?

    Etc etc etc "

"Wossat! No Bulbs in stock & a 6 month wait. **** me dead"

I bet this scenario happens more than we know.

Seems unlikely, Rover got out of the jet engine business not long after starting to make Landrovers, before the Comet design was starting production. Although if I remember rightly, they were largely responsible for the design of the Halford engines fitted to the first Comets before swapping their jet engine business with Rolls Royce for the latter's tank engine business.

Back in the day, when horseless carriages first came out with electric lights... In France, the law was such that ALL cars had to, at all times, carry a full set (representatives ?) of all bulb types....

Headllight bulbs were also to be 'couleur juane sodium , to reduce glare and penetration of fog.

Not only but also, they MUST be replaceable by the... automobiliste, and, sans TOOLS.

Gosh, that last bit would kill off some modern cars !

(jack up vehicle front, remove panel in mudguard to access rear of headlight assembly, ....)

Don't think the WHO really did any jabbbbbings. Might have smashed some guitars in their time but nah, no jabbbbbing.

Yer know the solution to this is quite simple.
Sat next to me here I have some olde Kero fuelled Buggy Lamps.

Can't see a problem with using those & if the draft blew those out you could easily fit a small baffle to knock it back a tad.

Not sure how they could be illuminated but I recall Kingsford Smith one of Australia's early aviators involvement in transferring engine oil from one donk to the other to keep his old bus "Southern Cross" flying. Maybe could do the same with Kero if they snuffed out.

    BTW, TiC.

A couple of comments on this

    1. In 1973 I visited my brother who was living in Copenhagen. He owned a Citroen Dyane. We toured Europe in it, and when we entered France, the first thing we had to do was to buy and fit yellow headlight bulbs, as these were required there (not absolutely required for foreign cars, but driving a french car with white headlights would be asking for unwanted attention from the gendarmerie. I wonder when this changed? I don't see yellow headlights in news footage from France these days.

    2. In my childhood, as required by NSW law the first couple of cars we owned had a switch next to the tail light, as required by NSW, so the driver was assured that the light was working. The first car we had with two tail lights (1948 Austin) did not have this, so I guess that having two lights superseded the requirement.
