Years ago I was working in employment services when the local supermarkets here in Moe started to introduce self serve checkouts (which I steadfastly refuse to use) and I was talking to one of the store managers and asked him what the savings were expected to be and he said that they would probably need more people. To say I was skeptical is an understatement. Fast forward a few years and when I was talking to him again and asked about the success of the self serve idea and got a spiel about how the three biggest expenses in supermarkets are loss, shrinkage and wages. Funnily enough wages have gone down but loss is WAY up - almost to the extent that the wages savings have been eaten been eaten by loss and loss prevention. Employee numbers, of course, are down.

'er indoors will be pleased (well not pleased about the job losses of course) but that her prediction came true.

Pleased yes, because she usually is when things turn out that she was right. Don't ask.

General Angus Campbell has been widely criticised after reportedly warning an Australian Defence Force Academy class of cadets against being out after midnight while consuming alcohol, and presenting themselves as "attractive".

They don't "rip off" anything. One thing I learnt from driving supply chain logistics is that most stuff on supermarket shelves comes from a few suppliers, only the labels are different. The biggest point of difference between Aldi and the American mobs is marketing. Aldi doesn't do it, and the labels they sell don't do it either. Every product on the shelves at the Americans is marketed, from laundry soap to baked beans, and all of that costs, putting prices up and up.

Oh, you will not see a "self checkout" register at Aldi.

Aldi ain't perfect, but it's high time the American supermarket model got challenged. I hope more companies do it.

They blatantly copy the designs of other products that already exist and push the products they are copying off the shelves and sell their own branded almost identically as the products they don't sell anymore. The marketing was already done sometimes for years by the other companies they "aren't ripping off". The money all goes to the parent company and none of the intermediate companies get a cent or get squeezed out until they go bust or give up and go elsewhere. Woolworths is Australian not American? Aldi is German. I don't understand your point. If you're trying to say Wooleys is an American model and Aldi isn't based simply on self serve checkouts and marketing, then you're really splitting hairs. They're both based on the same large franchise supermarket model.

Doesn't exist anymore as far as I know. Everything about this bottle is lemon squeeze. It even has the little nodules on it like the original did.

I could go to Aldi and Wooleys right now and find 30 products that are just a team of lawyers away from copyright and trade mark infringement or the original company has gone under

However, I thought that you believed that this forum was for Land Rover debates only.

get off the land Rover forums and go debate this on social media somewhere instead of fighting amongst yourselves. It shouldn't even be on here.

I think it would be a hilarious thread. You love to argue. I've tried to interject humour with you but you seemingly take offense at anything I've said.

I don't like any of them but what choice do I have. They run all the big supermarkets and either I pay through the nose with suppliers that don't even exist anymore or I have to use one of them.

No. That was on the other thread where people were discussing politics and things were getting out of hand. I'm not the one disagreeing. I'm saying my opinion and other people are disagreeing. Kind of like what you're saying. Either go along with your flock or be a "sheep". Ironic.
