There is a metric used in the British National Health Service (NHS) called "QALY" or Quality adjusted life-year, and there is no better explanation of this than this link. A Health Economic perspective on COVID-19 | Dr. Malcolm Kendrick
Not only does he put this into the perspective of the Real World, blog-follower comments are equally illuminating. - Some give links to other sources, well worth the diversion.
I'll just compare our current, terrifying, UNACCEPTABLE, Beer-Bug death score...with male suicide numbers for 2018. SIX blokes per day succeeded.
Between 2015/2016, ambulances transporte over 70 UNsuccessful patients per day. Men’s mental health: Male suicide rates in Australia on the rise
Bet you didn't see that plastered over every TV channel.... and endless "Corona Virus Updates".
I'll be ready to reach out for help if my mind takes me too far down a Dark Road, and for the current annoyance, and evading 'Lock Down Patrols', I'll keep up with Zinc, Vitamin C and D. And quercetain if I can't get my GP to prescribe the drug de jour... Plaquenil , you know, the one Doctors are self-prescribing by the box-load....
(I'ts got a few nasty surprises, so don't try it without your Doctor's oversight.)
But it's cheaper for me - Aged Pensioner - than paying normal retail for Quercetin... both are 'zinc ionophores' ie, help the cells to suck up the zinc.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
At age 83 & a bit, I wholeheartedly concur.
My health is excellent although like most here have had the odd wobble, ie. BC, PC, Stent fitted but have come out of those just fine due to fortunate GP & Specialist care, not to mention a good loving wife that worries like old **** about me & supports me in the day to day "procedures"although some days here it does get a bit fraught.
Maybe we are more valuable, AND & apostrophes in the wrong places notwithstanding, but I see no reason to be given the old heave ho to make room for a selfish & inconsiderate ****ing nee'r do well who has wasted their lives...If I don't **** in your Daks then don't worry.
Just sayin'.
Aldi is my favourite shop now. The staff have been magnificent, the customers have always been polite and patient, and I put that down to the fact the customers represent the lower end of the socio economic scale, pensioners, low paid workers and the like. People who know what it's like to struggle, and have very little sense of entitlement. Just an observation .

All sorts of issues here, some only relevant too those raising those issues, I understand that.
MY message is one that is being virtually made "COMPULSORY" or not negotiable, or whatever other way there is to say it, particularly for people like me, over 70, is, STAY AT HOME, DO NOT GO ANYWHERE, these are simple rules for anyone,......if ya're at home, the disease cannot reach you,....so that will do me..
So Me, I have to see a specialist tomorrow, I don't want to go, but my GP says I should, I'll be ****ting myself outside of my home, but I will go, by car, but on the way home, I shall buy a bottle of something!!!...If I have to "go",...I'm gonna go happy!
STAY HOME, Pickles.

The"Black Dog" has knocked on my door couple of times (2x divorces) But I have never let him in the door But I do worry about others that have opened the doors to that Mongrel..
With the way things are going at the moment that door will be opened at an alarming rate and it isn't a joking matter.
