That's a pretty dodgy website that you're linking to. The long article on Medium it links to does state, in amongst all the paranoid stuff, that the coronavirus could've arisen naturally.

FYI, while "face" is supposedly a feature of Chinese society, referring to the Chinese, or any Asians for that matter, as "Orientals" has long been considered racist.

That article would barely pass at Law School. The fact that this wasn't imprisonment is shown by the fact that people were in fact able to leave their houses and therefore be fined, noting that you can't freely leave a prison but instead have to break out. And, generally speaking, prisoners don't get to go out for jogs or ride their bikes so long as they stay within X kilometres of their prison.

Relevantly, from the time of the Magna Carta onwards, quarantine powers existed in England and that included locking down and isolating whole villages. The "arbitrary" issue is dealt with by the fact that directives were made under a specific law.

But how does that stand under NZ law, and their Bill of Rights. Considering a Professor of Law wrote it, you would have to think it would stand very well at Law School. What does he know that you don't?

True, you'd expect that a Professor of Law would know his stuff and a lot more about the law than me - but to my eyes the article's not very convincing, particularly after reading this:

So, quarantine's been a response to plagues for a long time.

I don't think that the Kiwis did themselves any favours by referring in their Bill of Rights to detention rather than to imprisonment.

A couple of days ago I saw a comment that UK car sales for April were down about 97% - leaving Tesla Model 3 as the best selling car, followed by Jaguar iPace. Presumably these cars not slumping was a combination of new favourable tax arrangements for EVs plus the fact that sales of both these models, like most EVs, are supply constrained not demand constrained.

I'll be interested to see how it turns out. It's amazing how one word could make a difference.

I think that once a few of our "on the spot" fines have found their way into court we might find that some of our State laws on this subject are not as robust as the cops would have had us believe.
