For instance my 17 year old daughter works as a casual at the local club averaging three shifts a week along with half a dozen of her mates. Would her world end if she had two weeks where she couldnt work? probably not........ These casual employees are included in the figures in the article. Self employed workers may not have sick leave but should have a contingency for not being able to work in most cases as they could just as easily have a disease or accident that puts them out of action for two weeks.
As mentioned in the article at least we have a good health system that does not charge for testing and treatment
That Grattan institute bloke is getting a lot of traction in the press this morning, I guess doomsayers equate to clicks.

Not every casual worker would be in your daughters fortunate position. Many live close to the poverty line, and live pay cheque to pay cheque. It is these people who will be the most affected by quarantine. BTW, there is no such thing as Grattan institute, who are you talking about? Surely not the Chief Medical Officer? EDIT. just did a check, there is a Grattan Institute, my apologies. Another EDIT, it is supported by the Federal government. Interesting.
Grattan Institute
Policy Think Tank
Grattan Institute is an Australian public policy think tank, established in 2008. The Melbourne-based institute is non-aligned, however it defines itself as contributing "to public policy in Australia as a liberal democracy in a globalised economy." It is partly funded by a $34 million endowment, with major contributions from the Australian Federal Government, the State Government of Victoria, the University of Melbourne and BHP Billiton.
