NZ case.
A press conference just finished.
South African variant confirmed.
The woman visited Netherlands and Spain on her own for 4 months visiting family there. Flew home via London and Singapore.
Into managed isolation in the Pullman Hotel Auckland on 30 Dec and released after two negative tests (tested on days 3 and 12) on 13 Jan. First felt slightly ill 15 Jan. Got tested 22 Jan. Holidayed with her husband around southern Northland (Auckland to Whangarei) for 9 days before health deteriorated and being tested and going into self isolation. They live in the area.
They used the covidTracer App (QR code scanner) lots to log places they visited and to date 28 locations have been IDed as having been visited. Contact tracing well underway.
It is said it is now almost certain that the person contracted the virus within the isolation facility. CCTV footage being examined. Filtration in the Pullman Hotel stepped up.
Concern is now on the others staying in the same hotel in the period 6 Jan to 24 Jan. 254 odd people have been released from the hotel in that time. To date 172 have been contacted and told to self isolate and get tested.
Hoping the luck is still with us.

Yep, seems likely luck will be needed.
In the last few weeks the experts have been getting increasingly vocal in their concern about complacency and how the border response to the new variants is not strong enough and/or taking too long to formalise within the systems.
Seems likely they were voices that should have been heard sooner.
