Going Wave Rock to Albany instead of backtracking to Williams will save you quite a number of KM.
Ravensthorpe was nothing going for it tourist wise.
Best heading to the Porongarups from wave rock stating the nite and then heading to Albany.

That gravel road from Norseman to Hyden (Wave Rock) is worth the drive. Its a mining company road and is kept in pretty good shape. It certainly was when we were there about 18 months ago. Easy two wheel drive stuff. The Kombi had no worries. Lots of interesting stops. We really liked stopping at Disappointment Rock. Has parking area and a dunny. We climbed all over it in the morning sun. A great variety of smaller wildlife if you take the time to look. There was even a 6 foot brown snake, which was thankfully asleep!
Also the rabbit proof fence. The cleared land is to the west of the fence and the uncleared land to the east. My BIL who has just completed his PhD in Environmental Science (I'm an environmentalist! Don't call me a greenie!!) reckons that if you look at the space photographs of the cloud formations there are far more over the uncleared land than over the cleared land. He believes that overclearing of land has a far greater influence on climate change than greenhouse gases. It also causes salinity, the greatest environmental problem in Australia.

Ravy's not really a tourist town.
Hopetoun has nice beaches. There's the Fitzgerald River National Park there (most biodiverse in the world I think) but unless you're a botanist it's not overly exciting.
Have a great trip.
But then on the drive to Sydney up the Hume we came across Clonbinane and Howlong in Victoria, and Lavington (sounds like a chocolate covered cake!) Queanbeyan and Wagga Wagga in NSW to name only a few. So whats normal in names? I reckon WA names are interesting.
BTW whenever you see a name ending ...up in a WA place name it refers to water. It comes from the local Aboriginal language. It is quite common - eg Wagerup, Burekup, Porongorup, Tambellup, Gnowangerup, etc.

At least I can pronounce the NSW and Vic place names!![]()
