For those wanting to change the splash screen (the dodgy picture of what I think is a Holden Statesman that appears when you boot it up), follow these steps:

    1. Make sure your battery is fully charged and the GPS is plugged in to the power supply.
    2. Make a new image that is exactly 480x272 pixels.
    3. Save the image file in BMP format (not JPG or GIF) with 24-bit colors. The file name must be "Logo82c.bmp". This may be case-sensitive
    4. Copy the file to the root directory of your SD card.
    5. Reboot the device by pressing the reset button
    6. You should see a "Found logo file, Updating, Update done" series of messages, then your image will be displayed and the device will boot. 7. Remove the Logo82c.bmp file from the SD card, otherwise it will update every time you reset.

    New Splash Screen

Now that is a more appropriate splash screen for my GPS.

    Thanks again Ranga.

I think that after your firmware update, your new menu, the new skin and now the new splash screen, I'm happy with it.

OziExplorer and Garmin XT are running well and I have enough local topo maps from GPSAustralia and the free routable OSM maps to keep me happy for a while.

Two units, delivered to my door today... let the fun begin.

The starting pic's already been changed, but I'm still to update the units to run OziExplorer & GarminXT.

I understand Ranga's very busy modding these units for members, so is there anyone in Perth with the install CD I could borrow for a couple of days? I'm in Coogee, but am happy to travel anywhere in Perth to get them.

    Cheers

    Bojan

You don't have to have the CD or DVD.

Ranga has put links to the files and brief instructions here:

DealExtreme Product Forum: Multiple GPS programs in the standard skin/menu - "HOW TO"...

They were there when I did mine a week or so ago.

Those files do the firmware update, the menu change and the skin change

If you do get stuck, let me know and I'll send you a DVD.

For those others waiting for one, I'll try and run some off tonight and send them out tomorrow.

    Ranga...

    Thanks for all your hard work on this. Your 'how to" files were great. Finally got everything up and running after a few tense moments;

    1. Couldn't find the 'ResidentFlash2' (hidden partition)
    2. Couldn't find the reset on the particular unit i have, after deleting files running in CE mode.

After I worked out how the menu's work couldn't help myself but have a play, Added a new splash and then changed the nav menu back to 3 icons with a nice deefer blended into the bground. I recon they look pretty schmick. Im now stoked with the unit, ended up with 5 for friends and family
    Pics below.

If anyone wants the bground or splash files just let me know.

See if you can attach them to this thread - I think you might have to zip them up first though.

    Menu & Splash Upgrade Files

    Ranga,

    Ill give it a go!

    The menu files will only work once you have done Ranga's upgrades;
    1. Firmware
    2. GPS Menu Upgrade
    3. Native Menu Upgrade
You don't NEED to do the Native menu upgrade, but why wouldn't you once you have come this far?

Before you do anything make sure you meticulously backup your SD card to somewhere safe. At least you can go back to what you had before if you dont like the upgrades or something goes wrong.

    - Extract the files provided from the .zip

    Splash
    - Put the 'Logo82c.bmp' file in the root directory of you SD card.
    - Cold boot unit (it will see the file and upgrade your splash file).
    - Remove the file from the SD card.

    Menu
    - Copy the files from the .zip into the corresponding directories on the SD card.
    - 2 background files into ?:\SDMMC\GPS Menu\Backgrounds.
    - 5 menu configuration files into ?:\SDMMC\GPS Menu\Config.
    * Note: If you still need the 4 icon menu (i.e. you want to add Garmin XT)
rename the GPS.ini file to something else then rename the GPS(4 icon).ini to GPS.ini

Feel free to give me a call if anyone needs a hand.

p.s. Ranga has anyone sorted a nice way of exiting out of Windows CE mode?
I havent looked at it yet but I wont be continually resetting as its just ugly.
