For those who have already received their GPS

In the meantime, until I simplify the instructions I followed, you can see them here DealExtreme Product Forum: Multiple GPS programs in the standard skin/menu - "HOW TO"... for yourself. They're written for those who are fairly IT proficient. If it's too complicated, I'll be posting easier instructions soon. I just don't want to hold anybody up.

Ordered and received OK. Took about 6 working days for delivery, then a few hours mucking about getting oziexplorerce, aussie maps for the igo routing software that was pre-installed, and garminxt.

All working great! thanks ranga for the pointer to this great value little device.

Therefore, it might be best for you to order your own, and either get me to send you the files you need and follow the tutorial yourself, or send the GPS to me and I'll do it for you. It's a bugger as this will cost a little more in shipping and take a little longer, but the last thing I need is to be slugged with import duty - however much that is!
Customs not only hit you for duty they also apply GST charges to the value of the goods and the value the postage to Australia and they will monitor your imports so if your sending yourself little packages over a month they will aggregate the packages and then charge you on the total.

I think your better off getting people to order their own units and import themselves with ones needing help to do the fix posting them to you with return postage

I've just cracked another breed of unit...

    Without stepping on rangas toes.

My suggestion would be to order the units yourselves, send Ranga a 2 Gb (4Gb preferabley) Sd card (or whatever that particular unit takes) and he'll load the patch onto it and mail it back.

If enough people are interested and voice that opinion to Inc we might even be able to get him to host an image of the card on site. (or if you happen to know someone with about 1.8Gb of free host space..... )

I tried to use a 2007 version of the Australia.fbl map file - worked out I need a later version to run with IGo8.
Where did you get your aussie map for IGo8 ?

Anyone who wants a DVD with all the files on it needed to get their GPS up and running, send me your address in a PM and I'll send you a copy.

Also, apparently my GPS units have arrived at work, and I will get them when I return from holidays on Monday. To those who received a PM from me advising that I have one for them, I'll be modding them next week. I'll PM you bank account details when they're done, and post them out the next day after the money clears.

Again, anyone who wants to visit me in person, I can do them for you while you wait.
