Thanks for the interest, but I sorted shipping out viw these guys e-go.com.au. Believe it or not, they're offering me shipping door to door for the princely sum of $13! That's right - thirteen dollars! Hence, I'll be taking them up on their offer.

    Exclamation

I've now managed to confuse myself by offering 2 different units!

I think it might be best for those who want either unit to send me a new PM stating what model they want - original slower 372MHz model with bluetooth, or faster 500MHz unit without bluetooth. Take into consideration I'm yet to even test the faster 500MHz model, so can't even verify if they're any good.

So until I test the faster unit, let me know via PM if you want the slower unit. I'll be placing an order Saturday morning for 7 units (to stay under the $1000 import duty). First in, first served.

Don't know much about them so will still need a hand with the set up.
No problem - given your location, might be best to drop around. I'll send you a PM.

I'm hoping that the new faster units I've spotted use the same modifications as the slower units I'm used to dealing with. If so, I'll probably aim for them instead. This will naturally make them work a bit faster. Not the the 372s are slow, except when playing movies they stutter a bit. The only problem is, it will probably take a couple of weeks to receive the faster one I've ordered and test it.

So, who wants the Deal Extreme 372MHz unit, and who wants to wait and see how the faste one goes? Sorry for the muck around, but I'd like to give you all the opportunity to decide which one you'd like.

For those who have already ordered the Deal Extreme units, don't worry. They still work fine, and I'll still be providing a tutorial and files for modifying them very soon!

BTW, I got approval this morning to use some files in the mod that a friend created, so hopefully a tutorial will appear before the weekend.

    Stay tuned.
I'll await your verdict on the faster unit...cheers

Ranga, you can put me down for 1 of the faster units, and I am happy to wait... and pay you to set mine up too!
I'll sit quietly and wait for your payment advice etc.

I am a bit undecided about which unit may be best for me because I have no previous experience with these gadgets. The main difference between the two units seems to be speed and blue tooth.

My use is probably confined to just city and bush navigation and as a music player over the FM transmitter or head hone jack but as always you find additional uses down the track for something as adaptable as a mini computer.

Assuming I am probably never going to interested in watching video on it, can someone outline what significant advantages there are to additional speed and what significant disadvantages there are to lack of blue tooth?

AFAIKS the speed would be irrelevant for GPS, but bluetooth would be handy for mobile phone stuff....as a hands-free kit.

might try to get one for me (direct ) and have a bash with the instructions.

Was also curious if getting nav maps working on them is possible. Would make a nice 3 way unit... turn-by-turn, topo or marine.
