Hey Brian, how deep do you reckon your ashtray is there. My coin tray, which is in the same spot only looks to be about 20-25mm in depth, if that from memory.
Perhaps you having the lever auto shift might be the difference in depth to mine, which is the dial shift unit. Perhaps they changed a few size specs around the console. (??)

On a road trip,,, too easy, would have no problems with that at all,,, good excuse to take it slow and smell the roses so to speak

City driving, if I stop, two things could happen,,, I'll get abused for stopping and holding up the traffic, then of course come the repercussion's from that

But I must admit, I've slowed down somewhat

It's not very deep at all - I'll measure it tomorrow. I've never used it, as I've always had too much crap plugged into the two cigarette lighter sockets, and it doesn't really pull out far enough to be useful for anything other than an ashtray - and I don't smoke in the car.

Come to think of it - I almost don't smoke at all now. Have been on the Champix for nearly four weeks, and the ciggies are almost a thing of the past.
    Cheers .........

While I agree, Chops smokes in the Defender and I've been a passenger many times and it doesn't smell like a smokers car at all. He smokes with the window right down.

And, while I've always been a non smoker, I still think that someone has the right to do what they want (including smoke ) in their own vehicle.

Oh that I agree on, it's his vehicle, he can do what he wants...

The fabric roof liner and materials in the D4 are a bit different to a defender and will soak up the smoke though, far different to the Defender which only has seat cloth.

But regardless - it's his... and he can do what he wants in, on and under it. Chops, The PermagrinChops, The Permagrin

    No he can't.
It's his vehicle so he can do what Leeanne wants.

Window down or not you definitely can tell a smokers car, like Tombie said it will get in the fabrics.

If you're not worried about resale and that's what you do, then no one can stop you, it's yours to do as you please. Though there is side effects. :O

If that makes you happy Chops, fire away (pun intended)

    I love my family here

I know about the headliner part, and yes, it's a worry, having said that, I do vacuum it, well, the Discos I've had, and did do the Defender about two years ago, and before it goes, will be done again. Some people try and mask smells with fowl smelling crap,,, hate it.

Leeanne and I are actually in discussions at present on whether or not we'll continue to smoke in either car as they're both new. Certainly no damage done yet. And the main reason for this,,, the crappy placement of ashtrays/bottles or whatever you use. It can be almost dangerous when trying to find the hole when in traffic, not so bad on the open road though.

    We'll see.
