What happened to your D3/D4 today?

Another week in lockdown - so another small project.

Completed a new reverse camera install using 2 camera’s. One mounted inside at the top of the upper tailgate looking downwards, and a second mounted externally down low just beside the tow hitch. Normal view is from the high mount position, and then when I select reverse the camera switches to the low mount position. Also added a wireless relay so I can switch between the camera’s manually.

But here is the neat feature. Rather than place a small monitor on the dash, I mounted a 7 inch monitor on the middle second row headrest facing forward. I can not only see the monitor in the rear mirror, but when reversing and looking over my shoulder I get a clear view of what is hidden from view behind the car, plus still have peripheral vision to see anything approaching from either side.

    It works surprisingly well.

Removed the 3rd row seats , and even after reading how heavy they were ,it was still a shock to actually have to lift them out. must be near on 50kg , but they are surprising in how much they flop around as a pair so made moving a bit more of a struggle.

Havent posted pics as plenty of posts on this but it is a neat storage area altho i had to modify my original replacement floor as i put the cargo barrier back in , so needed the floor to be able to be lifted in seperate sections.

Al in all a good idea if you dont have plan on using the seats or like me have a cargo barrier installed

I think I must have missed something. What was wrong with the original camera?

My original set up that I fitted 5 years ago is a small 5 inch screen that is located between the front 12v accessory plugs. The new set up has the larger monitor, plus the camera’s are better quality with better vision at night time as well. The extra camera fitted on top of the tailgate gives a much better view of the road and traffic behind you.

The new cameras also have the 4 pin aviation connector so the new camera located beside the tow hitch can be easily disconnected and a camera mounted on the trailer can be connected in its place when towing. But this is a future weekend project.

Yes. I levered them off. They clip on/off. Just note the orientation to make refitting easier.

Mine were that gooey. I kinda grabbed em real tight and they stuck to my hands shook em up and down and they unclipped. But DJ is right. There are three locators in them that need to line up

    Not happy Jan

    Well

Not a good sign early Sunday morning. On the way back from a surf when.......knock knock knock shimmmy then nothing. Car cuts out and I coast to a stop. Went to restart and engine was shaking all over the place and smell of burning oil in the air ...

Now its waiting for a diagnosis at the local stealership before I decide where to go and what to do. Can't help but feel that there's a new engine on my horizon.......Busted.jpg

    Gawd..that's not good😐

    How many k's?

D3 in Hobart did the engine and was on Slumtree for 5k last week..guess if it's a new engine required it becomes a tough decision to make to keep or sell as is.

Hope your outcome is more positive....

    A real shame.

Being a 3.0L is an issue.
If it was a 2.7,the Territory engine is the go.Although 2.7 D4 don't seem to have issues.

But all these vehicles are getting on,so yes its a big decision on what to do.

The local LR Indie near here,i don't use him,but thats another story, recently told one of my brothers that he has almost one a week in with a failed engine,or some other major issue that isn't really worth repairing.Thats D3/4,and RRS of same vintage.
