    Cool Back Home

After chasing the sun on the Mainland since May the D4 is back in Tasmania. Faultless performance towing the 6m house on wheels with over 1K0Kms travelled, only glitch is my GPS telling me I am still located at Thallon in Queensland. Diesel consumption was impressive with an average of 13L for most sections of the journey. The auto box was allowed to do its own thing except where a couple of steep downhill sections were encountered.

I had a rough first acquaintance with this vehicle however once the poor service history was addressed I have become very impressed with the current outcome as there is no hesitancy in available power or stability.

This is a very competent tow tug.

Went for a drive to Cambo @ old Jag in Sydney today. Got apple car play and an auto tune.

Not a great road to test it on.. But I'll be pulling the throttle controller out tomorrow, not needed. The Auto box is sensational. The car play and having current maps is equally as good.

Oh and got a local bloke to detail it Sunday so it's pretty again

    Serviced Rear Wheel Carriers

My D4 has a long range fuel tank and the spare wheels (two of them) are carried on OL swing-away arms. The arms are mounted on bearing supported stub axles, welded to the steel rear bumper. I cleaned out the old grease in the bearings and repacked them.
The arms open very smoothly on their bearing mounts and they have the recoil and travel managed by a gas shock on each arm. You can get into the tailgate quite quickly with this set up, with just one hand.
When not set up for a trip away, I use just one rear spare, mounted on the passenger side. Using the passenger side aids visibility on the driver's side, through the lower tailgate window on that side. Also, when the tailgate is opened, the passenger side spare swings into the kerb and not into a lane of traffic.
The number plate and pilot light is mounted on the swing away arm.
    Best wishes,
    Jeffoir

Got myself a P1247 error today. My D4, the gift that keeps on giving. No explanation so far. Cleared and no repeat. Of course this happens the day before I’m about to set off for a long weekend.

Removed the I drive thing now I've got the trans tune, I had it set on number 2 and tucked under the dash.. Didn't want to see it.. I'll be selling it I think. Car is a bit "slow" straight up but is getting used to me again.

Removed soundlabs invery air dual, makes the iPod port into a Bluetooth connection for streaming music. Don't need it with car play.

Replaced the glove box lid with a new genuine one that's leather, much nicer.

Not a big day. But it's raining. Thought about investigation with the latest fault code. But that's a tomorrow job

    Hi Josh.

Where did you get the glovebox lid and how much was it? Mine is distinctly ordinary now.

Nah, I don’t need an emergency tail gate release. I’ve replaced the thing before preventively. So Murphy’s law is that is fails next when on a camping trip isn’t it What happened to your D3/D4 today? annoying!!!
