What happened to your D3/D4 today?

I got caught out without a multimeter once on Moreton island many years ago.Came across a D3 with a flat battery.
No worries,i thought,got out the jumper leads,but no go.Had the D2a in those days.

Eventually with a bulb out of a dolphin torch,and the torch battery, worked out one of the jumper leads was open circuit.Then thought the wire was probably broken near one of the clips,which it was,and guessed the right one,luckily.Cut off the clip,bared back the lead,jumped the car,all good.
So eventually we got them going but it would have been easier and quicker with a meter.

So the meter always comes with us.

The other thing i always do is keep the bag of tools behind the drivers seat,on the floor.
Thats so if the rear tailgate latch fails,i always have the tools to remove or move the cargo barrier, available.
I have also cut a couple of bits of mesh out of the barrier so its easier to access the bolts that hold it in place.

That reminds me, I have to install a remote tailgate opener.

I normally drive fairly sedately, and with the lessening traffic, have been trying driving the 2.7 in economy mode (with no one up my backside).
Not that I trust it, but the average fuel economy display around town has changed from 11.8 down to 11.3 over the last 2-300 km and is still dropping - can't all be due to less weight in the long range tank[bigwhistle]

Must be a WA service special - bought mine over from Perth also - although I have since had it serviced here in Vic as well so can’t be sure when it was removed.

It probably gets damaged when removing the filter - just annoying when someone has no integrity to sort their mistakes.

Not a cheap part to replace either.

It’s definitely tricky to get it out and in but you’d have to be rough as guts to tear off the wire. Would it not cause a fault if not plugged in?

Apparently does not trigger any faults if unplugged. And being hidden you would never know it was missing after a service.

My guess is the apprentice is doing the job, removes fuel filter and throws it straight into the bin. Gets new filter out of box (Manual drain plug is already fitted) and fits new filter, totally oblivious to what should be there.

Or

Breaks water sensor when refitting it to the new filter by over tightening it, puts the manual drain plug back on and refits the filter. “The customer will never know”.

Good tip, although the cheapest I could find the complete assembly (Fuel Filter Housing D4 RRS (Genuine) LR010416 LR045519 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order.) for was 10GBP more than the sensor by itself (Senor Water D3 07 On (Genuine) WKW500080 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order.). But the assembly does include a new filter.

That was what tipped it for me. Yes, the sensor by itself was a whisker cheaper, but given I needed a new filter anyway it worked out better to buy the whole assembly. It has been sitting in my office for 12 months now. I'll fit it one day.
