Thread: What happened to your D3/D4 today?

Yes, as a matter of fact I did know about the Y62. I recently looked very seriously at buying a Y62 patrol to replace the D4 and in the end once I worked through all the Nissan fudge factors quickly came to the conclusion that it just doesn't have the payload capacity that the first glance at the specs would suggest. Deceitfully misleading marketing for what is fundamentally a very good vehicle, Cadogan got it right.

Just something to consider. Unsure of each States laws on occupants. But if you remove seats from a car is needs to be recorded with the relevent registration office. If the removal is only temporary for say a strip its OK, but long term it needs to be recorded, well in the Nanny State (Vic) its does.

Ironically my seats were always “just removed for a trip”.

Don't have the numbers right in front of me but from memory second row is 73kg and third row 36kg. I'll check tomorrow and amend the post if necessary, yep, amended to 73kg

Not in Tas yet either. Son was called in by a public servant in the transport area..who drives a highly modded 80 series ironically...after he advertised car for sale with photos. Car had not been out of his back yard for months so it was a bit of a grubby act. PS did not check that it was engineered for lift etc....but he had to do the call in anyway. That is where the 15 yo drawers were picked up😞 . Engineer should also have addressed it earlier on the mod plate. PIA all round😐

It is not the annual inspection that catches you out. I Vic we do not have annual inspections either. But a vindictive Cop or a Vic Roads inspector can pull you over and do a check. I am sure other states would have this as well. Just be aware of it. In Vic they put a unroadworthy sticker on your car, and then not only do you have to change the seating capacity the whole car has to pass a full blown roadworthy. That becomes harder to achieve and more costly as the car gets older. So I just caution you if you think it wont happen to you.

It gets worse because anyone..inc your neighbour or ex partner can get your vehicle called in for a roadworthy check. I had an interesting conversation with the head of the unit in Tas..and that's what she said..anyone. anytime..in confidence..and they will issue a defect notice. So what about malicious complaints.... I asked....humm she said..well..we are bound to act...so how many times can a person complain...well.. that's not limited and yes your son could pass inspection today and be called in again tomorrow.

At which point i had to laugh and suggest that they needed to revise their policy. Typically she suggested I write to the Minister. That old fob off I said..🙄

Car is sold now so it's someone else's problem but really..what a dumb system so open to abuse and yes..even your local inspection centre could dob you in...who would know😞
