Been a good last couple of weeks, just arrived in weipa today. The road so far very good.

We drove up the Bloomfield track from Cape trib, pretty easy going, enjoyed a few beers at the lions den before arriving in Cooktown. A big thanks to Steve for letting us camp at his great shed and for helping me change a leaking rear hub seal, top bloke
We stayed a couple of days at Eddie's camp on elim beach, nice spot, the coloured sands were awesome.

Will spend a day in weipa tomorrow to regroup and get ready for our assault in the OTL

The Landy has been great, only minor oil leak from rear diff cover today. I found all the bolts were very loose! Just before we left I had the cover off and refitted it with a new cork gasket, are thinking the gasket has compressed a bit. Should've just uses silicone, anyway will keep eye on it. Other than that is handling the corrugations well.
    Cheers for now, Andrew.

Tough when your teddy bear likes someone else's Land Rover so much better than yours that they jump ship

Mind you it's one fine 130.

Just missed you. We flew into Proserpine on the 30th and spent the night at airlie beach before sailing the Whitsundays for seven days. Pics here https://twitter.com/zx12rzx12r
I saw one defender 130 named Cecil! In Airlie Beach. It was so much warmer up there. First day back home I was on the chainsaw getting more firewood thinking that this would not be a job I would be doing up there. Leanne says to slow down, you are on holidays which I thought was a bit ironic given the serves I received for taking life at a slower pace on holidays! Safe travels.

Well... We made it to The tip up the old tele no worries, awesome time camping and swimming with the kids, the old Landy soaked up the corrugations others were complaining about, started heading south, turned onto the Frenchman track then it all went pare shaped

The drivers side trailing arm snapped at the chassis end which speared us off the road. Tailshaft fell out, snapped the yolk on the diff, broke brake line, snapped one shock in half, and the passenger side trailing arm also snapped at the diff end. Not good. Amazingly the airbags although mangled all out of position didn't pop or come out.

Could've been alot worse, we had been tooling along at about 90 but as we had just turned onto the Frenchman track were only doing about 40 when it let go. Everyone's ok which is the main thing.

Luckily someone came by with a sat phone and we decided to use our total care. So we camped the night on the track, I got up early and just tack welded the TA arms back together so I could put the camper back on and make it easier to load on the tilt tray.

So, if you have so called heavy-duty trailing arms, please closely check the welds for cracks! Having a close look
The welds were too small and not prepped well. Is frustrating to have a so called heavy-duty after market part fail which could have been a very serious.

So we are in weipa and will have the Landy assessed tomorrow for insurance to cover the repairs.
