So what makes this supposedly an ex mil series 1 - certainly the tool holders and the rear lights would seem to be later add ons?

Previous owners beleives so..

I am trying to establish if this is correct....however we have rechecked the chassis number so now we are back to square 1

If it is Ex mil and I had to put money on it, I would be looking at NZ military records.

It could have been ex RAN but there would be little in the way of body features to confirm this - I suppose you have checked the Navy delivery records from the 50s that are floating around on the forums somewhere.

Good luck with the search though.
