Yes, I think I may have contributed to this discussion. I was brought up to know that you always need to soak gaskets (time depends on material) before installation to get them back to size. Probably particularly the case for Landrover gaskets made in the UK and stored for some time in the Australian climate that is, by and large, a lot lower humidity. Actually probably doesn't make much difference where they are made, as any factory working with this sort of material should keep humidity fairly high to ensure the material remains flexible during manufacture.

Sorry for being off line for a while, life gets in the way at times! Anyway, got the gaskets on (thx again Paul) and buttoned it all up. The gasket that I had that didnt fit was WAY off the mark, I highly doubt that it would make such a difference wet or otherwise. I show this on the video (although not that easy to see).

As for the nut, yes bloody tight at around 90ft/lb torque, so I did the same as the other side, held the flange in with bolts and a bar to hold it, then used a breaker bar and gave it the berries till it moved. Let me tell you, it was very very tight!

So again after some time I am getting into the 2a. Had the chassis 'cleaned up' with welding and repairs. Still a little more to do with the front right dumb iron. Also started working on rear hubs, stipped, cleaned and ready for painting. Will be replacing the distance piece, new seals and new brake pistons. Also pulled the rear leafs apart, the ones from the 109 as the original 88 partly ruined but may be able to salvage some leafs.

Of course more vids are on my site but here is the leafs one:

ok, so the chassis is now finally painted! I had various bits done on the chassis and also included two plates for future seat belt mounts. Now the next task is to get them damn bushes into the chassis!!

Following on from the completed chassis, here is how I installed my chassis bushes. Pretty easy really, worked for me so may help someone else.

Paul - may be able to get some but basically it a copy of the size and position as found on S3 88s. If you know someone with one its easier to measure etc, but if you want pics I can get some from the S3.

    Cheers,

I do three steps after stripping the chassis paint.
    1) Phosphoric acid - wipe down chassis with it and let cure. Clean chassis with thinners to remove residue.
    2) White Knight metal primer enamel - i use this as its convenient to purchase and has good rep.
    3) White Knight enamel top coat - 2 coats of satin black.

Im sure there are many other products to use like por15 and specialty chassis paints or even galv dip, your choice and loads of conflicting opinions out there on the topic!
