Wow,,, certainly did some damage. Hopefully, as you've said, you'll be able to salvage a few parts from the top section and ancillaries.
As promised, a few pics and a vid to boot

Thats a bit too much crank case ventilation.

Ok, pinion seal replacement... pita job especially when seals are not the same. The newer type rubber seal has a raised inner lip which would contact the mud shield, i think. So i tapped the mud shield on the flange to sit further out, hoping this will clear the lip. Anyway vid shows this and no i do not state this is the right way to do this so time will tell.

I have a paper gasket for the diff to axle housing join, but as usual with these afternarket stuff, the holes dont align with the axle studs. So I am thinking I wont bother with a paper gasket and use RTV gasket maker instead. Yes its a pain to remove if required, BUT I figure removing a diff centre isnt a 'usual' job so should be fine. Also nowdays a lot of applications dont even have material gaskets anymore, focusing more on the sealants.

Carlos
how did you get the nut undone on the diff - in your video one was really tight.
i have spent the weekend waiting for WD40 to have some effect/ trying lots of leverage.
any tips?
Angus
You mean the main pinion nut on the end? Never had one so tight it wouldn't come off with a decent breaker bar - not a piddly little one, I've got a 36" breaker bar which undoes pretty much anything. If that doesn't shift it, I'd say someone may have used some high strength locktite on it which it shouldn't need, but who knows. If you're replacing the seal once you get it try some heat on the nut.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
