A wet day in the Tweed today.
So in the shed working on my swivels.
I assembled as per manuals, but ended up with 2.5mm gap between to pin and housing.
I have the disk fitted inside the bush. The disk being 2.5mm.
I measured everything, which all seems the same, old and new.
As you can see with disk fitted, the other slides between the gap, I hand tighten the bolts and the ball nips up with the 2.5 gap still
If I remove disk and use the 2 thinner shims, all fits and torques up top and bottom with 9 lbs of pull to move it.
Not sealed up yet, until I sort the problem.
So what Have a done wrong ????
    Thanks for your help.

I loosely fitted the oil seal and plate, over the ball.
The seal is very loose in the housing. I guess the plate hold and seals it in place.
What should you add sealer to when fitting the large seal and plate ????
    Thank you for your help.

I filled the grooves on the inside of my seals with grease then pushed it against the ball and centralised the seal. I then put a wiping of silastic arount the outside of the seal and groove and tightened the seal down incrementally so as to keep it centralised and then finally tightened it up. The reason the seal is loose in the housing is so it can be centralised and due to manufacturing tolerances. The seal retainer clamps the seal down so it stays central to the ball surfaces. It helps if u move the ball from side to side as u tighten the seal retainer to keep the seal in the middle

That bracket is on "A" about Shane.
The purpose of it is to stop the jack scoring the chrome ball if it slips of it's jacking point which is basically the
flange where the diff housing and the stub axle assembly bolt together.
The bracket is only on one side of the front axle (right) as the other side has a greater area to jack from.

And often mislaid when reassembled! (What's this and where did it come from? Can't be important, as there isn't one on the other side!)

Thank you gents for your replies.
    Great source of info again.
But what of this little Gap I have at the top pin ????
I am going to knock out top bush, take some measurements, and tap back in.
Tapped bush and bearing back into original, and took some measurement. 1 1/2 mm to gain there.
    Keep you posted.

It sounds as if the bush may have something stopping it (or the bottom bearing) from seating properly.
