Looks like the remnants of the rubber boot that would normally be on the stick inside the cab.
You have certainly applied some elbow grease to that gearbox and transfer case.
It looks too good to ruin by putting oil in it

    Cheers, Mick.

Holden 186 motor, which at the moment is a non runner and it has the Overdrive Lever.
The Overdrive lever has three positions. Would one position run the PTO shaft to the rear ???? ( not fitted ) Would the pulley mounted at the back, be the same as my Grey Fergie one ????
Will post some more photos over the weekend.
    Thanks for the reply.

Started on my Super Winch Over Drive.
It was fitted to Gilbert when I got him. Seemed quite quiet, unlike most.
I believe it is a later Super Winch one, because no casting Fairey name or numbers.
Did find a really rough number stamped in under the dirt. Punch marks joined like a kids dot to dot book.

I removed the clutch sleeve from Gilberts old Gear box
Looking at the teeth they look nice and square with little wear.
The Mainshaft Teeth are nice and square and the bearing surface has no pits or marks, as does the bearing surface on the clutch sleeve.
With the clutch sleeve inserted into the Mainshaft, very little play felt. Quite a nice tight fit.

Stripped and checked. All looked good except,
Need a shim kit, and a couple of flat bearings, on the mainshaft. 'O' ring and circlip kit, plus seals.
    Uk or Aus supplier ????
