Aluminium rivets are easy to shear with a cold-chisel without damaging the capping. I got the idea from Dinty I think, who used a wood chisel; I made one from a piece of leaf spring.

The lighter weight rivets, like the ones that attach the galv trim to the roof, came off with a chisel, but I found the heaver ones around the tub required some heavy hitting, and with the tub not being bolted to anything this proved more difficult than just drilling them.

I have a set of Paddocks parabolic spring and the original axle straps definitely don't fit, I've tried, and concequently have a spare set!

Can't take the credit for this one but the fix was a butchering a heavy duty cargo strap.

Was thinking of replacing the shocks, I recon you are right the fronts you can get away with the original size but the original rear shocks are stretched to the limit, be interested if you manage to identify which shock size fits best. I recon the springs give at least 2" of lift and they don't settle at all!

is that 2" of lift with standard shackles or with military/1 ton shackles?

The parabolics I've just fitted give a huge lift - the rear would be well over 2" but it's a tray back, so no weight over the back wheels. I've got to remove the helper springs from the rear pack at some stage, but plenty to do before that happens.

I didn't pay enough attention before I stripped the car to see how much the parabolics have lifted the car. I think the front will be ok once the engine/gearbox go back in, but I'm pretty sure that longer shocks and straps will be needed for the rear.

The last part arrived for the gearbox today, the layshaft, so that can go back together. The bloke that sorted out my diff problem is going to be putting it back together for me, he is however going to let me watch/help, not sure thats the best idea for his sanity! (I ask many, many questions...)

I should have the last engine bits tomorrow, Turners had a bit of a mix up with the valves they sent, however to their credit they were very good at resolving the situation.

After that, well, I have well and truly abused my bank account (and credit card ), so unfortunately progress is going to slow down until I can recover financially. I don't even want to think about what I've spent! However, to be fair, I have purchased a few tools and other equipment along the way which will hopefully last a lifetime.

I know what that's like, we've been stop start for ages now because of the money. Spend wad loads so far, and have many more wads to go.

Once I've gone off the boil it takes a bit yo get me going again. The 101 has been a priority for me recently, but I must get stuck back in again soon...

I'll do my best to keep up the enthusiasm There are plenty of little jobs to do, and I have the funds set aside for the engine and gearbox, so they can go back in.

The only major expenses I have left is the painting and interior. I wanted to paint it myself, but the dangers of 2 pack paint make it not worth it, and by the time I faff about getting a booth of some sort knocked up, and buying the safety gear, it's going to cost more than paying a painter.
