Welded a plate on the car trailer for the check chains, an upgrade needed for the registration.
It passed the rego check with the comment that looks good, my emu droppings couldn't have been as bad as some. :whistling:

the alternator red light was showing and over to the side of the road I pulled. ------ So I must go out now and try work out which one of the spare alternators I should use, I do have a small collection to choose from,
Pulled the alternator out of 'Fred', found the stator had gone open circuit, so removed the regulator module and dumped the rest.
I had another 100 amp alternator that used to be in my Defender and it would fluctuate wildly in voltage, the salvaged regulator fitted nicely, so I went to refit it back in 'Fred, but all wasn't well.
The 'P' gasket looked to be leaking, this shouldn't be as it was replaced while the wife and myself were in Apollo Bay, Vic. So moved the housing to have a look and the gasket looked good, nothing else for it but to remove the housing entirely.
After a good look in the daylight I could see that a repair by a previous owner had failed, they had by using epoxy metal putty filled in some corrosion in the port of the water pump housing, but the coolant had found its way under the repair material where it had gone stale with corrosion continuing to a point where it started a leak.
I happened to have another spare housing ready to rebuild another 300TDi engine, so in 'Fred' it went and it looks like a brought one now.
The wife and I then went for a drive to the nursing home visiting the mil and 'Fred' didn't miss a beat with both repairs being most successful.
