ive not checked into it but i imagine it could. although you can go into supercheap and buy one of the seats they market and install it . the difference might lay in the mounting brackets. the ones they supply could be engineered. or not. i think any modification away from manufacture requires engineering and a certificate to approve the mods. ive used the original landrover mounting points and a certified vehicle manufactured seat (subaru) BUT the mount inbetween is what would be questioned regardless of how well i think ive made it.
i once installed a bullbar on a ford ute and was told that without the bullbar manufactured hardware to attach it , and a plate of certification, then i would have insurance troubles if i were to make a claim. i contacted the manufacturer and they sent me their mounting hardware. 4 high tensile bolts i could have bought anywhere was what they sent me. not stamped approved. just 4 bolts to hold the bullbar to the ford.

so in my humble opinion, a very grey area where if it came to push and shove with an insurance company, the little man always loses.

i think even the system that allows you to slide your original seat further back in the defender would need engineering approval . mind you it may have that supplied, ive never seen one in the flesh but it does change the mount.

if i get into town one day or happen upon a vehicle engineer tester i will endevour to see if my mounts would pass. im sure for hundreds of dollars they will tell me.

    regards cactus

Came home and swapped that bugger out with help from the guys here and now all seems good ...

Will give her a full test run tomorrow though ... so we shall see ...

George was looking rather daggy after making more than a dozen trips to the tip over the last 3 weeks to haul home trailer loads of mulch to improve the gardens, plus trips to the growers market and the Queensland Garden Expo at Nambour, where he snatched a bogged car in the car park, and then carried home multiple plants in pots, so i figured he had earned a clean. After the usual stuff I also bought a bottle of Black Magic cleaner for plastic, rubber and other trim and got to work. Afterwards, he was looking very smick indeed.
