Yep Thing is, though, If you know the part number most of the semi independent parts guys will give you a reasonable price. It's extremely rare to find a filter ( lots of other things for that matter ) that suits only one application. Get to know what they are and hunt around.

Autobarn, Supercheap, Repco, all the same I reckon. In Vic I recommend making friends at Bursons, but I did that when the local bloke was Motorgear, now gone.

The chains see $$$$ when you mention LR. Find out where your local workshops ( not LR, just general workshops ) get their parts and then ask them. Get to know them well enough and you'll get trade discount. That should only be 10% GST these days, but you'll be surprised.

The most expensive aspect of regular servicing should be the oil. Never compromise on oil. But there are many reputable brands of filter. Mann and Ryco come to mind, but there are others.

I know I know, all the soundproofing - wiring - strip out - serpentine/thermostat -harmonic balancer - etc were all done over a 3 week period from new years day. I was putting in solid 10+ hour days every day while I was off work... xmas holidays weren't exactly holidays this year.;)

Polished out some serious pin striping that I acquired last Saturday - but it was worth it as the views at the end of this particular 'track less traveled' were absolutely fantastic.

I have the same leak :)hose between tanks, have to run the fuel down to fix it

Mine was the rear fuel filter. See details and pic below. Had apparently not been changed since new and rusted out. Now replaced.

fixed leaking vac pump...

just about reckon with the right kind of grinder/right angle drill I can do it with out unbolting the thing.

cause of leak 1 missing rivet and 2 broken ones.

Replaced Lucas 15AC alternator with LRA 101 on the 2A.
The new unit has an extra ten amps over the 27 amp original and also has a built in regulator.
Not a big job to get it fitted, just the need for couple of spacers for the hinge bolt.

So, just to finish off the fuel filter saga, you might remember that George had lost about half a bucket of fuel when the rear fuel filter failed and wet the carport floor.
I started George today for the first drive after replacing the filter and he ran for about a minute and stopped, then refused to start. I checked the new filter and it was full of fuel, so I figured the fuel hadn't flowed through from the back to the fuel pump.
How do you prime a system with fuel injection? No idea. So, I figured I'd just crank it over for several minutes and see if the fuel flowed to the front. After about 3 minutes of pumping (good thing the new battery is fully charged) it spluttered but didn't start. Pumped it some more and it kicked over, but idled roughly for about two minutes, with the revs rising and falling, before it settled down to a steady idle, so I let it run for about five mins. to make sure all was well.
So, if you're ever in that situation, be prepared to kick it over for several minutes before it comes back to life.
