What did you do on your Landy today?

Last weekend replaced Rear Rotors and Pads.

This afternoon stripped out the Right Rear Window frame, to strip down, and respray (rusted inside the door), replaced the little green doodad on the lock so door now opens from outside and inside.

Tomorrow will remove the Left Rear Window frame to derust and respray as well as replace the lock actuator.
Also will replace front rotors, pads, caliper guides.

If I can find good plastic (suggestions?) I will cut replacement plastic to fit over the doors under the panels to prevent dust ingress.

And will track down a "new" coolant leak leaving red tracks on the front diff.

Hopefully at the end of the weekend it will all be completed and I will be happy rather than grumpy

For the plastic try using builders plastic sheet, the stuff they use for putting over concrete etc. It's pretty thick, just not too sure about how to go about sticking it back on. Anyone have a suggestion for some kind of mastic like the black stuff that's on there from new?


Yesterday I drained and flushed the coolant with a view to replacing, until I realised it was in the back of the wifes car.

Today I flushed again and refilled with coolant and water wetter (5.5L) plus distilled water, which BTW Bursons have 4L for $6-, much cheaper than others I've found.

The other day the good lady and myself went chasing daffodil's up country in 'Fred' the D1 300TDi, the daffodils there are later than the ones at home, so whilst there were plenty of buds around that site, they hadn't bloomed yet. :oops2:

So what does the driver of a perfectly good land rover do when in close proximity to bush tracks, well need you ask? :twisted:

So after acquiring some smile's and mile's on the very muddy tracks we headed home albeit without any daffodils, but boy! was 'Fred' dirty! :imwithstupid:

'Fred' was being given a grease and oil change as a well deserved reward the next day, when the call came through about an old uncle who had parted the ways.

So with 'Daisy' still sulking and with her jammed door actuator's, it was now up to 'Fred' to act as a ( searching for an appropriate descriptive word here, I am open for suggestions ) funeral chariot.

Well with 'Fred' still looking the part of a Woollies car park poser, with mud all over, didn't look right for a solemn occasion like a funeral. So out with the one inch hose and nozzle, a brisk brushing with lots of high pressure water, soon stripped any sign of 'Fred' having played in the mud. :huh:

We arrived at the funeral early with 'Fred' gleaming clean, putting to shame the dirty cars that had just travelled down the gravelled roads up country.
So please fellow Land Rover owners, don't scorn me for washing 'Fred', I will try and find some more mud to cover 'Fred's' naked body as soon as the daffodil's bloom proper. :burnrubber:

Today, desoldered the eeprom from a bricked TD5 ECU, replaced both windscreen washer jets and under bonnet hoses as turbo heat had cause one jet to go brittle and disintegrate, replaced a broken abs sensor plug holder (the plug has been rattling against the brake booster), and as a pointless exercise I replaced the abs modulator mounting bushes.

On Tuesday I fitted a factory light bar and a pair of Hella Rallye 1000 driving lights.

Topped up the transfer case which is leaking like sieve. Saw that it is coming from the rear so will follow Urban Panzer's great write up and do the rear oil seal first before resorting to pulling out the whole thing to do the intermediate shaft.

Ordered the kit from the UK along with new handbrake shoes. Even with postage it is still way cheaper than local sourcing.

2002 Td5 ES Auto

I pulled these out from under the disco. I laboured away with a wire brush and a tooth brush to remove what appeared to be pre-historic baked on oil. it was like tar. now they are ready for a set of seals. I also have a new set of welch plugs and a new rear main seal to go in. im aiming for a leak-free landy :cool:

Lets see now. First I went and got a couple of lower trail arm bushes for a R R C, then got some hydraulic joint sealant for the power steering. Then got home, removed the left radius arm from the front and replaced the bush. To remove the arm I had to also cut the brackets holding the brake lines. Was either cutting or undoing the lines. Cutting was the best option as it allowed me to reposition them to allow the brake hoses to fit behind the shocker mount. Had recently replaced the shockers. The Bilstein shocks are about 7/8" longer than the old Rancho shocks. So removed the bolt on mount and now have a mount that is longer. Had done the right one earlier. Refitted the shock absorber, repositioned the broke hose brackets and tacked them back on to the arm and put the wheel back on. Front diff was leaking from around the pinion flange. So drained the diff removed the nuts and sprung the diff open enough to clean up the old silastic. Resealed , just need to tighten up the nuts fully and refill the diff.
Tomorrow is the finishing of the diff and sealing up the pipes on the steering box.

Finally got around to changing the input shaft seals on the Disco pas box.The shaft looked perfect with no movement in it,the seal was hard and brittle.Replaced it with like but noticed Rave had the inner seal followed by the circlip where as the manual showed a plain washer between the two.I guess if the shaft was worn the washer would allow a fresh bit of the shaft to contact the seal.Should really have changed the output shaft seal as well,but needed the vehicle.....wasn't too hard a job to complete by myself...but two would have made it easier to reinstall.Looking at the poor Defender,went to fix transfer box oil leak....prop shaft bolts not tight ,box mounting bolt loose,flange nut loose....the oil was leaking not from the seal but through the broken felt washer.Do not know what oil was in the box,but it was not hypoy both boxes way too overfull?Will put MTF94 in the main box.Next job change wheel bearings and convert to the twin nut adjustment,new rear discs and have ordered clutch pedal conversion bits.

- Fitted a new winch to the D2
- Wired an In-Cab winch control switch in the D2
- Wired in a set of Rock Lights on the D2
- Installed the new UHF and Antenna to the D2
- Installed a pair of Fyrlyts on the D2 using factory switches on the binnacle
- Adjusted the D2 steering stops to improve turning circle yet avoid rubbing the 33's
- Chased down and diagnosed a leak to be a poorly sealing Oil filter (sorted)
- Made up templates and then sent the plans to Laser cutter for a customised ProVent mount.
- Fabricated a custom Oil return line for the Turbo and ProVent.
- Oil and Filters changed.

- Fitted my Roof Rails to the D4
- Wired the other Fyrlyts into the D4
- Fitted a new winch to the D4
- Began installing the Traxide DBS kit into the D4
- Fitted the LLAMS to the D4
- Ran the new antenna cable through to the interior ready for the TX3820 UHF install
- Made a mount for the TX3820 UHF under the drivers seat (on amp)

Sent drawings to the Laser Cutter for new brackets for mounts under bonnet for aux items...
