winch apart sitting in oil, then scrub up and then rebuild it.

Start going over her to get it ready for inspection to change from SA to QLD license. God alone knows how I am going to stop all the oil leaks? was told point blank not to turn up with even a hint of a leak.

Was going to put my LLAMS and Rhino roof tracks on the RRS but it is raining again so I cannot get out - I can pop put the tailgate up for shelter so I might go out and try and find out why the trailler plug powers my box trailer OK but not my camper or tail light board (not a LED in sight but causes cruise control to disengage when I put the indicators on) . I need to snip one of the trailer tail light power feeds at the rear fuse box that in Aust feeds the trailer brakes. That might fix the other issues - we will see.

Some TLC for Our Old County

After returning from our Corner Country, Innamincka and Flinders Ranges trip to take our new Tvan on its first run, it was high time to do a bit of work on our '85 County. One of the exhaust headers broke (noisy, but temporary repair held) so new Genie headers are now on. I won't be using heat wrap on mild steel again! Radius arm and panhard rod bushes have been replaced. New Bilstein steering damper and shocks all round. Firestone Coil-Rite air bags and sleeves now compensate for the extra load on the tow bar from the camper trailer. The car and trailer are nice and level, even with four jerry cans on the draw bar. Went for a test run with the Tvan and it's like a new machine!

I was lucky enough to pickup a set of dicky seats for my disco today, full set including seats/ belts/ rear trim and all bolts for $102.50 .
One seat in and one more to go, just have to drill out the broken bolt that somebody left behind .

1.Went to Repco yesterday and shouted myself a tool drawer/roller cabinet thingy and a garage slider. Swapped the tools into the cabinet
    2. After assembling above , put side steps/ sliders on the County
    3. Took off old Bumper/bullbar combo to fit winch bar but found LHS front of chassis rail (dumb iron?) badly corroded and also when just trying the new winch bar on ,found that it seemd to fit way too far forward of the front of the guards Will have to find someone in Melbourne to cut and weld a repair in .
    4. Wire brushed and sanded any rust off the exhaust and then gave it a coat of hi temp engine enamel.
    5. Fitted a new lock mechanism part in the rear passsenger door so I can lock it up again if parked in the city.

As per usual my aim to get a bargain was bigger than my thoughts on carrying that bargain in a trailer on the disco.

Anyway, hired a 10x5 tandem and drove 60km to see some pavers for sale.... NICE! new were $60/m so I picked up 55m2 of second hand pavers for $500 but then had to load them in the trailer. So about 90mins later of loading and loading and loading 500x500 pavers I drove out the drive and looked at the trailer.... Oops that's a little heavier than I thought. 400pavers at about 5kg each. Anyway, it drove fine, albeit slow, about 100km to our new place where the brother in law was kind enough to help unload at 6pm last night.

So apart from a squashed nail/finger and an almost busted 2T hire trailer, the disco went an absolute treat. Just glad the owner of the hire company didn't see his poor trailer fully laden.

So what did I do on my disco today? Worked it hard, and it performed just perfectly, right up to the cold drinks we guzzled down out of the fridge in the boot after the job was done!

Yesterday I fitted the VW relay for variable intermittent wipers
Cheap, easy to fit and a very handy modification

    Cheers,
    Paul.
