I decided to replace water pump as I had a water dripping under Larry (the land rover). I read everything I could find on AULRO, and decided to replace P gasket and thermostat while I was there. knock it off in a couple of hours according to AULRO, easy. I purchased all the necessary bits and got stuck into it. Having no mechanical ability whatsoever I was soon in trouble. Instructions seemed easy enough, only 13 steps according to workshop manual.

What it didn't say was that I had to remove fan so I could remove fan shroud to get at the nut to undo jubilee clip holding on bottom hose that had obviously been done up in the past whilst the shroud was off and could only be reached when shroud was removed.

What it didn't say was how tight the Power steering pulley nuts were and in fact I had to remove Intercooler to make room to remove them with my trustee Makita impact driver.

What it didn't say was that I had to remove Alternator, power steering pump many sundry nuts bolts wires hoses so I could remove housing?? To be able to get at P gasket (I assumed it was under water pump somewhere)

What it didn't say how bloody difficult it was to remove old bits of araldited on gaskets that needed a chisel and 400 grit wet and dry to get the flamin stuff off.

Long story short 2 hours stretched to all day, I have decided to use loktite 515 as gasket as recommended by mate who works on the V8 super cars. Now everything is off I will replace all hoses, power steering hoses, I have ordered a new intercooler from UK and will remove radiator and get it checked out. I was tempted to do timing belt but I think a little beyond me. See how I feel tomorrow. It's a learning process...

    Cheers

Seeing as it's your first time, imagine how much quicker you'll be in the future

I installed a few goodies on the weekend

Fitted a Gwyn Lewis challenge kit front and rear with the addition of X-Engineering X-Springs in the rear.

I still need to install the rear arms after i do the rest of the bushes and the a-frame balljoint.

I haven't been able to fully test it yet but so far it looks like it will really flex... the x-spring has only half extended into the cup in this pic!!

I've just this minute finished replacing the fuel lines linking the injectors to the fuel rail as they were leaking, I also reinstalled the auxiliary air valve so hopefully cold starts aren't a hassle now. A test run proved successful, warmed up much quicker than usual.

Just out of curiosity, what is that down the inside of the tyre? Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."
