Having listened to a CV click for nigh on a year, I pulled the driver's side front hub down, hoping, wishing, that the really dubious Rovingtracks axles that should never have been fitted had somehow worn in a way that'd make them extractable. No luck. The axle is stuck in the swivel housing due to being too large in dia to fit into the swivel's throat properly, and wearing oddly. Can't get CV out without a cold chisel, which wouldn't help since I wouldn't be able to fit the new CV anyway. Going to have to buy a new swivel and quality axles from Hi Tough or Ashcroft if I want to be able to fix this in the bush.

So mark, what your saying is you have to take the swivel housing off just to get the axle out??

If just it was so easy Damien, the axle has a groove scored in it, whilst through wear the housing has had metal displaced into the axle's groove, forming a ridge. Ridge, inside a groove. Means the axle cannot be removed from the housing, at all. The gap is too small to get the smallest diamond Dremel bit in to try and grind the ridge off.

Crap. I had to grind my swivel out slightly to fit my roving tracks axles, was not impressed as it was supposed to be a drop in fit. Was also not impressed with after sales advice
Oh well, its in now, hopefully i have no dramas, I don't expect I will as they look the goods.

Yeah I wish I had ground the swivels out...or bought a better product from a better company. Hindsight eh? The after sales service to me was along the lines of 'find someone with a big press and fix it yourself.' Glad he seems to be out of the Landy parts business.

Fitted 2 external power sockets on each side of the Defender, to use for the compressor. It will save kicking the passenger out of the car, taking off the seat and accessing the battery just to get the compressor set up.

Now I can just plug in either side of the car.

    Fitted them to the outriggers.

Mark, is it stuck in the bronze bush in the flange of the ball? Can you not press the bush and axle out as one and save the ball?

Not necessarily today, but two days ago I had to fix the rear passenger door lock. It was re-locking itself when the door handle was used. Rather than beat around the bush, the door was stripped and a full remote central locking kit installed.

put the rear seat back into the defender, and tidied it up all abit, had to put the belts back in as well, it was the toughest and dirtiest job ever done on a landy

    ps yes that was sarcasm
