    List of options for Mike

List of options for Mike that has been tried and to try.

Most of those suggestions so far involve getting the Defender to it's new engine.

Tried repairing the existing engine which led to more problems.

The size of the loaded Defender is stopping it from being transported by road and rail.

So a bit of lateral thinking is now required:

    1. Bring the Isuzu engine to the Defender and fit it in a workshop in Alice Springs.

    2. If bringing the Isuzu engine to the Defender is out of the question, due to not having the resources to work on it, take a step back from that and consider if a complete loan 300 TDi engine, radiator hoses and radiator could be sent instead, fitted, then driven back to Melbourne then removed to fit the Isuzu.

    3. Strip the Defender of any accessories and luggage , rail those removed goods to Melbourne and sell the Defender as is. Buy another Defender to rebuild in Melbourne.

    4. Ask again about shipping as a back load by a car transporter, the bare Defender after all the removable goods have been rail freighted.

Add your suggestions and any pro's or con's here, put your thinking caps on folks.

I have a 300tdi engine, but its in a car (not being used however), I also have his Isuzu.
So the problems with shipping his car are,
    -personal belongings in it
    - or its to tall

Has it a roof rack that can be removed to lower the height?

Rangieman - definitely not the timing belt :/

Arthur - when I say "personal belongings", I'm not just talking a rucksack or two, it's all of my belongings, camping gear, cooking gear, recovery gear, and maybe $6000 worth of mountaineering gear, plus a rooftent on top - not exactly stuff I can ditch or write off unfortunately.

Justin - yeah, I fully appreciate what everyone's been doing for me, would be a far ****tier situation if I didn't have anyone to talk things through with or discuss solutions. And have received some pretty amazing offers of help, publicly and privately. It'll all come good, I'm sure

    Oh, I don't know when I'm leaving,
    Or where I'm gonna go,
    I think my engine's knackered,
But I just don't want to know,
    'Cos for twenty-four days
I've been stuck in the middle of Alice.

Twenty-four days just waiting for spare parts,
To get my engine running, maybe get a second chance,
Now I've got to get used to never getting out of Alice... ♫♫♫

Another possibility, there is going to be fuel cost anyway:

Someone with a suitable vehicle able to tow 2.5 tonnes (almost any County or Defender)
with trailer brake actuator, hire a trailer in Vic, drive to Alice and bring Mikes Def back.

Alternatively, Same tow vehicle, take solid tow gear, fit a pintle to a strengthened bumper on Mikes Defender, bring it back to Vic.

I don't have the vehicle, but I have the time and tow gear, anyone want to loan/hire their Defender for a couple of weeks?

Mike, can the tent be put in the car to reduce height. Also can you get some old springs and cut them so it nearly sits on the bump stops?
