Not at all, i'm only doing this because i can, am sure it will be fine as it is. If my sals breaks, i can just bolt another straight in. 9" breaks, well, then what do i do?

Steve, can't quite tell from the pic, but did that tube look like it was a press fit, or loose fit? Finding something close off the shelf is leading know where for my 110 axle. Am nearly considering what pat has said and going the 9" route.

    Salisbury diff housing failures

I've only seen the photo, and from memory Murray hadn't noticed it was sleeved until it was pointed out.
I did some quick checking the other day. Jeep guys seem to run an easy fit and knurl the end where it goes into the center casting. Apparently that is smaller diam as the original are a heavy press fit into the housing so shrink when fitted. From what I could work out you'd need some sch160 pipe turned down to fit in.

Yeah ok steve, that sch160 has a pretty thick wall at 9.53mm, would only need to machine off 3mm approx. Need access to a big lathe😊

You need to spend some serious $$$ on a 9" to make the centre as strong as the sals. If you are going down the custom route then the big Nissan centre would be a better option.

All the tube failures I have seen on sals have been 110 axles. This thread is the first I have heard of 130 failures. Maybe the early 127s/130s had thin (110) tubes???

So did ALL 130 have the uprated tubes? Mine is out of a 1997 dcab, ( has now done over 500k and still nice and quiet etc on all original bearings!) wasn't there a marking somewhere to make sure? ?

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

SIII and (standard) 110 sals tubes are 5.8 mm wall thickness.
Heavy Duty 110 and 130 axle tubes are 8 mm wall
    Dana 60 axles are 0.315 - 0.500" wall (8 - 13 mm)

There are two types of salisbury ones available. The 21S and 24S (this is the code that the axle serial number of the axle starts, stamped on the back of the LH side of the tubing) 21S is standard and 24S is the Heavy Duty version.

Telstra changed from sals to braced P38's in their 130's because of regular tube failure, either breaking just at the casing or the tubes pulling completely out. Pat

I've got an early 130 24S housing, from 1992 ex-African vehicle. Its definitely the thicker 8mm tubes.
Being 1992 and only #229, guessing its likely pre-1990 ones just had the 110 tubes as you suggested.
