    300tdi Turbo

Does anybody know how much a turbo rebuild or service is going to set me back?

The oil seals have gone and its leaking oil into the air induction, i got my timing belt changed last week so my funds are a bit low, as usual being a LR owner.

How many Km's has the turbo done?

    Hi,

Sorry to hear the turbo is playing up! Just interested in how many Km's the turbo/truck has done?

Mine has almost 250K and am hoping for a least a 100K more without too many problems.

    Cheers

    Sean

First of all, sorry Simon, i forgot to get back to you after doing my timing belt.

I have been told injectors need doing at around 200000k, but not turbos, they should last longer than this.

Second, i have seen a new turbo being sold by someone in the LROC magazines, i think it was around the $2000 mark, they are a fare bit more than this new from a parts dealer. I am not sure about the rebuild costs to have bearings etc done, when you find out i would be interested.

It is most probably not the turbo oil seals that are leaking. If the seals were leaking then there would be massive amounts of oil in the intake system and you would be using heaps of oil.
There is always some oil in the intake system, it gets there from the engine breather, which fits into the rocker cover. If the breather is faulty it will let more oil vapour into the intake where it condeneses and builds up.

Have seen the head gasket blow between the cylinder and cam follower hole which has dumped huge amount of oil into the intake system, but this is accompanied by large power loss
