usually it's coming from the cyclone breather feeding fumes back into the induction tract upstream of the turbo. Give it a wash out and check it.
I'm guessing if the turbo seals let go the engine would almost run away on the extra oil.

    found this recently

if you still need a turbo.

I had mine done at 400k because the mechanic told me the turbo had too much end play (ie the blades were about to hit the housing). I put in a second hand one that came recommended by a LR mechanic (known history) and it lasted only 50km before it completely collapsed. Had to get another (reco'd one) - cost $600 + $600 more to have it put in - and it is all going fine now (except the wallet).

$600 to remove and replace a turbo, @ $50/hour that's 12 hours labour, I would be asking your mechanic to justify 12 hours for that job, seems excessive to me, Regards Frank.

I just paid $100 per hour at Davis Performance Landys for work on my new engine.

Funny mine did the same this week. Took it to L/R dealer $1300 to fit a second hand unit, after I found out I can have the pick from a Rover wreaker for $600, then got in contact with Adelaide Turbo Specialist for fully reco mine between $550-650.
    Cheers
