i think it is the width of the tyre i.e. you can go 50% wider along with your 15mm taller

This is from QLD transport. Now for the D2, the placard states the following sizes:

215/75/16
235/70/16
255/65/16
255/55/18

So I have read about the 15mm rule.....what about the 1.5 times?? If someone can explain/ work it out for me, would be greatly appreciated,

OK, I've read the QLD stuff, here's the answer:

15mm is for the total diameter of the wheel and tyre over the largest standard.

1.5 times is only for the width.

So D1 largest standard tyre is 235/70R16 = 735.4mm diameter:
QLD largest diameter is 15mm above 735.4mm = 750.4mm
QLD largest width is 1.5 times for live beam axle = 235mm x 1.5 = 352.5mm!

So this 1.5 times is asolute crap! What tyre comes in 350! and it still has to fit in the guards! and to keep the tyre diameter no larger than 15mm over standard you need a 350/49R16? what the? not likely!

1.5 times I don't think would ever apply to anyone!

I knew as soon as I hit send , I should have clarified....Marks...ie WhiteD3 was a typo as a D3 doesnt come with 16's,

That's what I thought! but you never know, someone may have fitted 16's to it! would look really stupid though.

Its 1.5x manufacturers max width.

You will be comstrained by other factors with the Discovery though, things like turning circle, uncovered tyres, rubbing etc. The max you will probably get out of a D2 will be maybe 305mm.

Where did you get the data from? Was it NCOP doc? If so, I would triple check that it has been adopted by QLD transport.

NCOP says:

The overall diameter of any tyre fitted to an off-road passenger vehicle or a commerical vehicle must not be more than 50mm larger or 26mm smaller that that of any tyre designated by the vehicle manufacturer of that model

Tyres fitted to off-road passenger and commercial vehicles must not be more thatn 50% wider than vehicle manufacturers widest optional tyre.

but the NSW RTS for example say:

Wheels up to 26mm wider than the largest optional wheel recommended by the vehicle manufacturer for the
vehicle can be fitted without the need to notify the RTA.
The outside diameter of the wheel and tyre combination must be no more than 15mm over the largest diameter
wheel and tyre combination specified for the vehicle and not more than 15mm below the smallest diameter wheel

and tyre combination specified for the vehicle.

Whose NCOP and no it was from the QLD transport website. I want to go a 265/75 or a 245/75 at this stage and can't quite work out which one fits the guidelines.
