I can't help with the sound of the digital side of things.
It's 60Km to where the network starts in my part of the woods and I don't head that way often in the off road toy.
I may give it go tomorow on the way to camp before our Sunday trip.
The network is due to expand but who knows when.

I feed the digital arial along the heater box using a coathanger to get it through the gaps.
It then runs up under the L/H A pillar trim and is stuck to the windscreen between the pillar and centre mirror.
Watch the pick up wires to the box, one of mine pulled out when fitting.

To remove the old head unit I used some 3 inch nails that fitted just nice into the holes.
    Cheers, Kyle

Did mine today. Head unit and iso to head unit cable (kenwood in my case) 30min job. All plug and play only thing is headunit is recessed a little into void and there is a little blinking plate for the unused 1/2 din.

I did not have ssteering control though which can complicate things. Orders of magnitude better

    Only Me?

    Hi All,

I've replaced the original unit with this Eonon 7" slide-out DVD/GPS/Bluetooth...

This is the second unit I've owned (a 2 din unit for my previous 4x4). Even though this unit is currently broken, earlier (within the warranty period), I noticed that if I left the unit on while trying to satrt the disco, it would reset the units to factory settings.

Is there a trick to connecting to a diesel?

I have to make sure the unit if off before I either start or turn the ignition off. That's on both the Disco and Surf. The surf I ran the wiring as per instructions. The disco has the right ISO plug so it was just an unplug and plug the new unit into it. No extra wiring left out (except for the steering controls).

Sorry. It's the only image I have of the stereo.

It's brilliant. Slides out to the right height for GPS/phone/radio...

P.S. To be fair. This was only $299 with a 2 year warranty. Clarion was $1200 with a 3 year warranty. The math just didn't work-out. And it did last over 2 years. I'll be buying another. That's $600 in 4 years (if the next one faults after the warranty).

P.S.S. Should have I started a new thread? I thought, while we're talking stereos.
    Cheers.

It was a Kenwood KDU-453, $124 at JB Hi Fi and the Aepro cost me $15 from Super cheap

As I said about 20 min job, pull old unit out, pull out DIN frame. Insert new DIN frame. Connect Disco loom to the ISO adaptor and plug in new head unit and all done.

As I said standard speakers but a much better and richer sound. I think I will look to upgrade the front splits with some better components and then all done but this is not essential my current speakers at them moment are adequate

    Hi Paul,
I was considering replacing my head unit with an Alpine CDE-126BTI and thought the steering wheel controls would be a good idea.
Where did you source your steering wheel controls? Is it a worthwhile exercise?
    Cheers,
    Alan

When I first installed I was in two minds about the steering controls. The control is fairly limited and I still have to use the front panel to select albums from the iPod and basic tasks like that. On the other hand it's much safer and easier to move forward//back to the next track or station and to adjust the volume while driving as you can keep eyes on the road and both hands on the wheel. Given the number of lunatics on the road that is no small thing.

I got the controls on ebay from a wrecker in the US due to the ripoff pricing of most Aussie wreckers. You need to make sure that it comes with the metal bracket and screws as they are difficult/expensive to source.

    cheers

    This should work, right?

    Hi all,

I've placed an order for an Eonon G1310 - Eonon G1310 | Car GPS | Car DVD GPS | 1 Din Car GPS DVD
Purchased an old leather Disco steering wheel that has the steering control (which I'll need to get reupholstered - in Sydney, any ideas).

I was wondering: As the image shows (3, 4 and 5), are these all you need to get the steering control to work?

Sorry for the attachment instead of the url.

    Cheers

Looks like it. I had a quick look at the manual and it shouldn't be too hard to hook up. The D2 steering remote is 2 wire, so according to the manual you need to connect the GND wire to the GND, and the other wire to one of the two steering remote inputs.

    cheers
