Battery drops below 9v when cranking so battery prob dead but doesn't explain the noise I heard

What you mean when you say shuttle valves is shuttle valve switches or SVS.
The SVS are operated by two shuttle valves in the modulator housing which move in response to pressure on the brake pedal.

The shuttle valves have a seal which can fail causing fluid contamination of the shuttle valve switches.
Doing Option-B and fitting new shuttle valve switches is a temporary fix if the shuttle valve seals are leaking fluid,
as the switches will become contaminated with brake fluid and fail again.

What Tombie is recommending is good advice - and essential for a long term fix if there is fluid present when the switches are removed.

Falconworks are the only supplier, but they seem to offer substantial discounts for quantity purchases so might be a nice opportunity an enterprising Australian D2 parts vendor

All belts were running I thought when pulled in garage no noise
Noise only started 50m from home and was intermittent
Turn the key and wants to crank but it's like the battery is dying
Drop the belt off and try and start it

Sorry mate which belt? Noob with cars and learning as I go
I'm leaning to starter as I heard a whine last night but it disappeared and heard again this morning, also the starter is ready hot! I might let it cool down and see if it starts from cold
The sound I heard in best description is battery drill flogging out like bushes

    only one,,

removal is done by moving the tension pulley , number 1

does the fan need to come off on oilers?

and if you DO remove the belt,, be sure to hand spin all the pulleys and check belt for splits or missing ribs

What the boys above have said.

Was stuck in the Flinders a few weeks ago, car wouldn't start, starter motor hot, sounded like it was polling.

Idler pulley bearing had seized solid.

Started easily once the belt was dropped off.

    Started UHF install.

Got the antenna & folding mount up.

The head unit to go under the drivers seat ... Already power there and the coax runs from the crossbar underneath the door seal and straight down to thru the breather hole gap in the door seal straight to the drivers seat.

And the mic clip mounted straight onto the GPS mount supplied by Land Rover on the A pillar as part of the Classic Country pack ... Too easy.

Disco is at the mech having new rotors pads and lines fitted so I'll have to finish off over the weekend.
