    Ah right'o. Back in my box then eh? What happened to your Discovery 2 today? I had the same issue others had mentioned with a buggered idle pulley bearing.

    That's what we used (similar) and made life easier.

    The mech that rescued me said he's had the alloy housing that holds the idler pulley fracture after a similar episode too.
    There's a lot of load going through it when the bearing gives up the ghost.

    McLaren, if you're going to buy a tool, I would get a fan removal tool instead. Once you have the fan off, working on all the pulleys is a breeze.

    What size is it ?
    It's bigger than my Tdi/Ford one which is 32mm
