Clutch noise and the waterfall of doom!

This morning I pushed on the clutch pedal and got a whirring noise. After about 5 pushes the noise stopped. Is the thrust bearing on its way out? Currect clutch has done about 140K kms. I've had the car for about 90 style, k kms. How long does the clutch last in a D2? I know it depends on driving style, a wild arsed guess or a ball park figure is what I am after.
The waterfall of doom. I have a coolant leak, some where as I am losing coolant. A new radiator went in 2 or three years ago, top hoses about 5 1/2 years ago. What are the likely culprits?

    Thanks in advance

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

Do you use a coloured coolant, that leaves telltale signs? If yes and no apparent leaks, possibly a head gasket.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

The car has the red coolant, head gasket replaced when I bought the car. By a reputable independent in Burwood!
The car has not been over heated. 95C tops on coolant.
It is a matter of having a good look at everything.

1 water pump -There is a weep hole on the side of the bracket. check for stains
2 oil cooler. Any mayonnaise on oil filler cap?
3 head gasket of course , but you should have pressurisation of the cooling system.
4 any of the many joins on the radiator hoses
5 the fuel cooler . at the front of the fuel cooler there is an Oring that eventually leaks. ( up to 2002)

Oh and of course the radiator itself. Pull off the shroud and look for leaks mainly where the tanks meet the core.
Another one I just thought of. There is an oring between the large bracket that holds the power steering pump and water pump to the block. If the water pump is replaced it should also be replaced.

On my old D2 owned from new - the original thrust bearing only lasted 100K and was replaced under warranty. Used to make intermittent whirring noises.

The original clutch lasted around 350K - despite this the Indy who replaced still lectured me for “riding the clutch” - to which I replied - “are you sure? - then I am looking forward to getting over 350K from the replacement then”.

Most of my driving was long distance country driving. For city use then I would have thought 150-200K wouldn’t be unusual depending on how driven but the thrust bearing can fail early.

Also check the welch plugs (they are super conveniently located behind the engine mount)

Have you checked the engine oil cooler hose or blanking plug? Especialy if it's later disco with the connection blanked over it's very easy to forget when replacing hoses.

the only other thing that makes any sense( though not much--) is the abs pulsing, which the car does, when braking softly at low speeds you can feel it pulse/grab and release through the seat of your pants..
    no amigoes.

    any thoughts?
new rears fixed it,, who'd a thought the rears would warp first?
